I only briefly stopped in on my way out of town after a big storm came through the night before, but it was pretty nice. They luckily had power and brewed some yummy coffee to support my car ride back home to CLT!
Excellent place for lunch, especially if you are craving a high quality sandwich. It does get busy, particularly around lunch time. Nonetheless, the employees are efficient so the wait time is reasonable. Order at the counter and then your meal is brought to you. I ordered the tempeh panini and it was perfect! It was cooked and flavored well, very filling, and reasonably priced. Pros: great customer service quick accurate orders reasonable prices large portion sizes indoor and outdoor seating available ample menu options that satisfy various preferences and dietary restrictions Cons: parking and seating areas are tight Overall we enjoyed our meal and would dine here again!
With all the chain eateries around the perimeter of UNC Rex, it was this past May when I stumbled into the Village Deli and Grill, just off Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh. With my wife in the hospital, I was just trying to get away fiir a few moments. When I walked in, I remembered being greeted by the most pleasant girl behind the register, who chimed, First time? I said yes, and with that recommended some soup and a sandwich. I added fries. The soup was broccoli and cheese, the sandwich, a Ruben. Just the best. But the fries, crinkle cut and done to perfection. I came back four or so more times, each time with the same deliciousness and wonderful customer service. Fast forward to October. I took the wife yesterday, who said how delicious everything was. By chance, we met the owner, Courtney Oakley, who told us how she strives to develop and improve recipes, preparation, and customer service. There 's no such thing as a perfect restaurant, and that doesn 't require explanation. But on a pretty consistent basis, Courtney 's Village Deli and Grill is a solid six!
Food was good. I had a half turkey/bacon sandwich with a cup of chili. It was fresh and the chili was average. You order at the counter so the service is really not a factor. It was clean and and interior nothing exciting. The tea had the taste of those big metal containers. It was not busy as we got there after lunch and too early for dinner.
Ordered lunch there yesterday. Got it to go. Paid $1.75 extra to splurge and have onion rings with my sandwich. (NCSU was about to beat Clemson so why not? Opened my order and saw that I had gotten 6, yes I counted them, SIX onion rings the size of shower curtain rings for my $1.75. My sandwich was smaller despite the price being the same. I live nearby so I'm a regular to this place. But as of yesterday, not a customer any more. Food used to be a good value for the money. But now? Don't bother.
