The Swallow Inn is a quintessential Upper Peninsula establishment of imbibing and inebriation. Dark, dank, with a smell that I can only assume is some combination of a 10-point buck, nightcrawlers, cheap whiskey and mozzarella sticks, perfectly balanced by the warm demeanor of the owner/bartender quick to bring another round when your glass hints of reaching half empty. And the prices, by God, the prices. You get your tab and assume half the charges are missing because you're simply not used to reasonably priced booze living south of the bridge. Is this heaven? No, it's Rapid River, but given the choice, I'd choose the latter.
Stopped for a beer at the Swallow Inn on the lonely main street of Rapid River. Chatted with the owner Trudy, she was very nice. There is nothing going on in this town and not much business but I understand that everyone turns out on Friday night for the Swallow Inn Fish Fry!!!
Sloooooooooooooooooooooow. OMG I was ready to eat my shoe. Seemed like the staff was good. Maybe they were catching the fish they were serving???
The owner/ hostess/ waitress was beyond helpful to the four vegans who stopped for salad bar which didn't open for several hours. When our needs could not be met she asked for suggestions of what she could carry that would work for us and then suggested another eating establishment in town after comping the beverages we had already consumed. We will surely stop here when the salad bar is open our next time through town!
