I apologize for the low rating, but I must address the treatment of customers at your establishment today. My group arrived an hour early to see a band that was advertised. We had hoped to enjoy a glass of wine and relax before the performance. However, we were informed to wait by the restroom or walk around the pub until the band started at 9:30. Admission would be free before that time and $15 afterwards. Opting for the latter, we returned at 9:00 only to be told there were "capacity issues" and not allowed inside. Despite our friends waiting for us inside, we were made to wait outside for 40 minutes before being granted entry. A long line had formed down the street as we returned at 9:00. Eventually, everyone in line was let in, but were all charged $15 without explanation. The restaurant manager and the doorman were extremely rude, shifting blame onto us for their stress in managing the event. The entire experience left us unimpressed with their strategy of making customers wait to increase profits. Interestingly, there were suddenly no "capacity issues" at 9:40 when the crowd had grown to over 60 people. It is clear that improvements need to be made in customer service and honesty regarding additional charges. Overall, a disappointing experience.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant and the wine selection is good; however, the customer service is extremely poor. I had booked two tickets for a concert at the restaurant with entrance times from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. I reached out via email and Facebook to inquire about booking a table so I wouldn't have to stand for three hours during the performance, but my messages were ignored. Even after receiving a reminder email from EventBrite, which instructed me to contact the event organizer for questions, I still did not receive a response. The staff at Cakes Wine could benefit from a customer service training as they seem to have no concept of what good customer service entails.
A great addition to the Redfern Sydney scene, this is a great little space that could be used for so many different occassions. A three-hour lunch as part of the Vivid program was a fantastic (if a bit weird) experience, and I'll be back...to try out their normal menu.
Really cool little place in a newly renovated Eveleigh Street. Situated close to Cleveland Street, this cellar door is more than just that. I booked a table for 2 and ordered the cheese platter. 2 meats and 2 cheeses, olives and crackers. Good servings and...more than enough for 2 people. Funky converted warehouse with a DJ playing quietly in the corner, it was a great place to start the evening off with a wine and pale ale. Try the Adelaide Hills Rose, very nice drop.
