On Monday morning, we travelled to Redfern by train and walked with the Uni students towards Sydney University, turning off at Abercrombie Street, just 100 metres north to find this unusual looking tea room. It is located in an unpainted industrial building, but the interior is clean, well lit and a pleasant change from the usual cafes. A very happy waitress met us at the door and told us to sit anywhere we liked. We chose a table near the norther door with a few view of the restaurant. My wife had examined the menu before our visit, but was unlucky to find that her choice was not available. The menu is fun and there are plenty of breakfast / brunch / lunch options, for all tastes. My wife chose the Green Tea infused salad ($18.50) served with Edamame, Avocado, Greens & Sesame dressing. It was fresh and enjoyable. She drank the hot Ginger Snap Latte ($5.50 + .50 with soy milk) a sweet, spicy, warm ginger, cinnamon and honey bush drink.I chose the very tasty Breakfast Toast Adventure on Sourdough ($19.80) with Black Tea Chutney, Crispy Bacon, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce. The chutney had a strong taste with sultanas, but tea wasn't a dominant flavour. The bacon was smoked and had a really nice after taste. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I would say that this is an exciting dish and highly recommended. I drank a hot Rabbit Hole Chai Latte ($5.50 + .50 with soy milk), the signature Chai, rich and spicy and brewed with local honey. Delicious taste, but quite strong towards the end. Most of our stay was quiet, though when we left at around 11.30 am, the crowds were starting to arrive. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful and quite knowledgeable about the teas for sale. Definitely worth a visit to try something different than the usual cafe fare. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed this funky little bar/pub in the CBD. Meals were a generous size and reasonable prices. Service was very good and the atmosphere was perfect for a casual catch up with friends. We could actually hear each other talking!
A great tea selection and I had the rabbit hole chai latte (it was great). We didn't eat. Service was good and a trendy setting. Nice music and plenty of tea onsite to buy. Will return.
It's TEA ONLY, as I soon discovered when I asked for a coffee to start ... intending to have a tea with my host when he arrived! Fantastic range of teas, including several caffeine-free. And instead of going for my usual Rooibos, I went with the Honey Bush ... very good.I also had a lavender iced shortbread which was a bit different, though a little too crisp for my (honed in Scotland) taste. And the non-intrusive background music (Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac) was very well chosen too!Great place if you want to try something different.
This is a great looking place. The open and airy room has well spaced tables and all kinds of tea for sale and on display. The menu has brunch bowls, sandwiches, soups and various toasts. Most of the menu items are made by incorporating some kind of tea, which i think is very clever. some of the food didn't quite hit the mark in terms of flavour. The pulled beef sandwich with pickled cauliflower had way too much cauliflower, The brunch bowl was nice and fresh but had absolutely no dressing or seasoning. the dry quinoa that sat in one corner was hard to digest. The winner was the breakfast adventure with black tea chutney, eggs, hollandaise and bacon. We had several tea lattes but they were a little weak the milk overpowering the tea flavour. I loved the way the tea was served it is very fitting for a tea based cafe. Specially desighned tea pots with timers to get maximum brewing time.
