However, as people arrived, the waiting staff (in their natty little Breton t-shirts) were very quickly overwhelmed. There was an awful lot of hanging around the bar, chatting with each other, and assiduously ignoring the customers. We left without coffee - as we couldn't get anyone to serve us - and probably could have left without paying, so keen were the staff to avoid our gaze. All in all, good food let down by service
I have been going to L'Amiral for the last couple of years, usually a few times each year as we live quite a way away. It say's something for this restaurant that we are prepared to drive for an hour in order to eat here.I have never had a bad dining experience, the food, wine and ambience of the restaurant is first class. We last went last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and were delighted to find a new and improved L'Amiral. They have obviously spent a lot of money revamping, the interior is all new, with lovely partitions, table settings, smoking room in which to sample the cigars they have for sale, and a fantastic wine rack which displays the wine in a novel manner. The restaurant is much lighter, and the flow of the place has been improved. We had the set menu, and as usual the food was delicious. I can highly recommend the Quincy white wine, a lovely fruity wine from the Loire valley. So, if you are looking for a restaurant that ticks all the boxes, then try L'Amiral, you won't be disappointed. We usually take our friends here that visit from the UK, as to my mind it is a typical high end French restaurant.
Our welcome when we arrived was very pleasant and solicitous, and the food was really quite good, and well presented. But as time went on and the place filled up, service became ever poorer, until we ended up leaving without coffee because we simply could not get the attention of a server. It's a shame that the kitchen is so badly let down by the table staff. The food would have been a five, but the service was a two. Shame.
It was great place for dinner, the stuff was very awesome, and also the food was great really I love this place
We had the formulae and ordered the starter of avocado guacamole with 'crevettes' (plural), It had a soup like consistency. My husband scored one prawn and I had none. We told our waitress and then mimed one and zero. She just smiled and went off. Obviously she did not mention our complaint to anyone else. If she did not understand there were other staff who spoke good English who could have followed it up with us.Our 'rose' beef was red but well rested and not ****. The mixed salad leaves were badly wilted and we left them. Desserts were good. Staff, service and ambience were good but the food was very disappointing.
