I ordered the cold dish, which was sparkling and delicious! The pepper beef was generously portioned, featuring robust spices and tender slices of meat. There was plenty of beef to savor. I also tried the clay pot with mushrooms and rice noodles, which was fantastic for mushroom enthusiasts. The only downside was the appetizer platter, which felt a bit basic. However, everything else exceeded my expectations for Chinese food! I would definitely return and recommend their signature dishes. For two people, including the aforementioned dishes and two bottles of hand, the total was $170.
For our order, we had: - An $18 calamari appetizer - A $32 prawn dish with vermicelli and garlic - A $40 duck dish with shrimp, chicken, pork, and greens - A $22 orange blossom chicken (the only dish that lived up to its price) **Service:** This area definitely needs improvement. Our seating host was polite and welcoming, but our server always seemed rushed and preoccupied. When she cleared our plates, it felt intrusive and she took them away too soon. She also didn’t seem interested in discussing the menu or helping us with our choices. If the restaurant was that busy, they should hire more staff. While our water glasses were filled promptly, the service felt indifferent. The man who brought our tea was friendly, though. Compared to other Peppermill locations, this one had the poorest service. **Atmosphere:** The restaurant had a slightly smoky feel, which was off-putting, but it was well decorated. The tables also felt too spacious for the round booths, making them awkward to navigate. **Appetizer:** The calamari was small, dry, and didn’t meet the expectations for its price. It seemed more like a $12 dish rather than $18, although the dipping sauces were enjoyable. **Entrees:** The prawn dish with vermicelli was tasty, but essentially comprised a few thin rice noodles with a bit of garlic and only 7-8 small shrimp. It felt underwhelming and was worth no more than $22 instead of $32. The duck dish consisted of 4-5 thick, fatty slices of meat that required a knife to cut. These slices were accompanied by 3 shrimp, some pork and chicken pieces, plus zucchini and baby bok choy. The duck didn’t have the expected crispy skin and instead was soggy at the bottom of the plate. The presentation was very uninspiring, and I would value this dish around $30, not $40. The orange blossom chicken was the highlight of our meal. It included about 8-10 generously portioned pieces of baked chicken, which were decent cuts. The sauce was exceptional, with a good balance of spices, a hint of sweetness, and perfectly paired with white rice. This dish was worth the $22 we spent and I’d recommend it for anyone who enjoys chicken with a bit of spice. It’s regrettable that the dish with the best value was also the simplest one. I was hoping for more complexity in both presentation and flavor, but unfortunately, Chi did not deliver. I can honestly say I won’t be returning anytime soon.
We visited Peppermill to celebrate our 30th anniversary, but after waiting over an hour at the first two restaurants, we decided to check out Chi. The bartender, Casey, was fantastic and recommended two excellent cocktails made with homemade ingredients. We enjoyed each dish we ordered, especially the seafood, chicken, and pork combo, while my wife's favorite was the Mongolian beef. We also tried the hot and sour soup, which was superb. I definitely plan to come back to sample more of the menu, and I'm eager to have that soup and another cocktail. Our server, Linda, provided great service as well. The only reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five is that $50 per person for Chinese food feels a bit pricey.
We love Peppermill Reno?s Chi Restaurant. We've been here for over ten years. The food is spectacular and the staff is wonderful. The manager Patrick is always gracious to us. Coming here is always a highlight of our trip.
Let's start with the great. The service was fantastic. Our waitress Sierra was polite attentive and very knowledgeable of the entire menu. When the food arrived we were also mightily impressed nicely prepared and very flavorful. The two stars came as a result of the horrendous air that was circulating around that restaurant. Being that this restaurant is in a casino you have a massive amount of smokers and that smoke was periodically wafting into the restaurant causing me to break out into coughing fits. I urge management/ownership at the peppermill to seal that front off somehow because it absolutely ruins the dinning experience. That's why despite all the positives of this place I will never come back. Please fix it.
