The service is poor, the restaurant could use a thorough cleaning, and it seems to lack any management oversight. As locals, we were excited when it reopened, but the quality has steadily declined. There was a brief period when it seemed like there was someone in charge, but they left to have a baby and have not been replaced. While we understand the challenges facing the industry, there are many small improvements that could make a big difference.
Nice Pub Nice Beer, food wise my Burger was like eating a Flip Flop on a bun my Wife’s Monk fish and Scampi was average. The service was poor no one seemed to know what was going on but that’s just about the way it is these days. We would go back for a drink as the Pub is in a nice location but wouldn’t eat here again.
Stayed here for dinner, bed and breakfast. The room was very comfortable and the food fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are log burners in the bar area and restaurant making the areas really cosy. We will be making a return visit.
Can honestly say that we wanted for nothing on this stay at The Assheton Arms. Everything from room cleanliness to all the little home comforts and necessities catered for in our absolutely gorgeous room. I have MS, so was exhausted by the time we arrived. Despite booking a table, our wonderful hosts were so very kind enough to bring our food and drinks the room, and lay it all out for us. I had just had an incredible soak in the generous sized stand alone bath using the L'Occitane toiletries left out for us, so felt like an absolute princess by the time I sat down to our delicious dinner. We slept well in a very clean, comfortable bed with plenty of pillows, and adjustable heating, as well windows that open(you'd be surprised how many places offer neither of the latter! . I awoke in the morning after the best night's sleep I have had in 3 years! Sarah was our server, and despite us being the first customers on a foggy October morning at 8am, she welcomed us with a warm smile and showed us to a gorgeous little table in a snug that overlooked the Pendle, and the stunning village of Downham. I knew a full English was part of the stay but had no idea we would also have access to an abundant feast of fresh patisserie, cereals, juices, conserves, and local yoghurt with compote. The cooked breakfast was quite honestly the best breakfast I have had in a long time. The hash browns were home made and the best I'd had, and the sausages were my favourite from local butcher, Cowmans. It was all nice and hot, and just perfect in size and serving. I enjoyed the most amazing stroll after breakfast, the local church/yard is full of beauty and detailed gothic architecture. Overall, we had a fantastic night. It has been a while since we have been able to get away, this was a precious gift from our eldest daughter. We have a 3 year old, and are severely sleep deprived so could have slept on a washing line! However, we were treated to a night of top class dining and service, in exquisite accommodation that was faultless, which is no easy feat! From someone that has worked in hospitality, I know how much goes into delivering the kind of service we received last night and this morning, we are off for lunch at another James Places establishment in Clitheroe now and can't wait!! Thank you Sarah for making us so very welcome this morning, and for helping us sort out the only issue the WiFi!! Keep it up The Assheton, we look forward to coming back!
