I have a strong stomach from living on a farm, but the lack of cleanliness was unbearable. The dining area appeared to have never been properly cleaned, except for the tables. The dim lighting made it difficult to see, but once noticed, it was disgusting. This level of uncleanliness should never be tolerated in a restaurant. Even most roadside stops are cleaner. Are there no health inspections in this area?
The restaurant continues to offer delicious and high-quality food. They adhere to all post-Covid guidelines by providing hand sanitizer on every table, having employees wear masks, and enforcing social distancing between tables. They also offer takeout options for those who prefer it. Highly recommended!
I went to this restaurant for dinner in Vancouver. It was conveniently located near my hotel and was one of the few Asian restaurants that accepted credit cards. The service started off great with the hostess attending to me promptly and with a friendly smile. I asked for her recommendation and she suggested some excellent options for me. I had the curry croquette as an appetizer and seafood soup udon as my main course. Both dishes were delicious, especially the soup. The restaurant is known for its desserts, with a great selection to choose from. I decided to try the matcha creme brulee, which was perfect - not too sweet like traditional creme brulee. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the service slowed down after I was seated. Overall, the food and dessert were really good.
We had great hopes for this place; there are not many really extraordinary Japanese restaurants in Richmond, and this one looked promising above all the mouth water shots on the billboard outside. We had a Chirashi Don, and I can't honestly mistake it; the fish was... fresh, and the variety was good. Was it worth $30? Debatable... Things went down from there: everything that came out of the kitchen was overcooked, even the Chawanmushi. It would be easy to trace it to the fact that it was a Friday dinner service that could easily overwhelm the kitchen, but honestly the place was only about three quarters full. On the plus side the waiting staff was very friendly and polite, which is always appreciated. Overall not exceptional and slightly overpriced.
I`ve walked by Toku many times when working in Richmond. today I had to give it a go. Their menu is extensive, even for lunch. I arrived just after opening, and was seated right away. I was hoping to sit at the sushi bar but...this was not an option. I was seated at a booth which was fine with me. their menu is extensive, even the drink menu. I opted for a draft Asahi, which tasted like it came from a bottle, not draft. Although I assumed this was strictly Japanese owned and managed, the accents from the staff indicated otherwise. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. As many of my die hard readers know, I am a purist for traditional Japanese cuisine. I scanned through their extensive menu, and opted for the Chirashi Lunch. Chirashi is "scattered sushi, meaning fresh fish and shellfish is scattered over sushi rice. My meal included miso soup, Japanese pickles, an appetizer and premium soya sauce. My meal came quite quickly. The Chirashi included fresh fish, Salmon roe and Uni..one of my favorites, beautifuly presented. I also ordered Chawan Mushi, which is a Japanese savory custard. No complaints, The restaurant is quite large, and they are kid friendly, including a play area for the little ones. Each table has a button to summon your server, but the service was so promt, I did not need to use it. The food was delicious, and I vowed to come back for dinner. I would highly recommend Toku for traditional Japanese cuisine.
