Uncle Lu is sister restaurant to Corner 23 on King Edward/ Cambie. Just like Corner 23, Uncle Lu serves typical Taiwanese-style food with an extensive menu of appetizers, noodles, rice combos, and bubble tea. On the weekend, the place can get quite packed as it’s located right in the Continental Plaza alongside other well known eateries like Dolpan Seoul BBQ, Gyo-o, and Le Tea.
Came here to try their famous pork hock. It was OK. Was expecting slices of meat but got random sized chunks..with quite a bit of fat actually. Garlic sauce was tasty. Noodle in soup was good. Broth was hot just the way I like it and was light. Noodles were perfectly chewy. <br/ <br/ My husband had the XO chili sauce BBQ pork fried rice. Was a hefty size. Tasted OK with a little kick. <br/ <br/ Marinated tofu was a generous portion. Five spice beef roll was soft, light and tasty. <br/ <br/ Service was a bit off though. Servers seemed to be confused where they were supposed to deliver the food..
Uncle Lu, the second Corner23! They specialize in their garlic-y pork hocks but I think their other menu items are pretty good too. I have to say, in my previous visits, I ordered combo meals which I thought were average, but this time, my friend and I weren’t that hungry so we ordered some small appetizers to share. Due to my previous “average” experiences, I was surprised! They were pretty good!
Uncle Lu is famous for their pork hock. We have ordered the Pork Hock Rice, marinated pork ears, Taiwanese popcorn chicken and rolled egg cakes with shredded pork. The Pork hock very tender and flavorful but the side dishes that came with the rice was kind of bleh. The pork ears has no taste. Rolled egg were just okay. Pop corn chicken was tasty. I feel they have lost their passion in providing good authentic Taiwanese food over the years. But overall the food were not bad.
