They initially tried to overcharge us with a verbal bill of $52 for lunch for two, but the actual bill came out to $32. This wasn't a mistake - it seemed like a deliberate and dishonest attempt to overcharge us. Beware of this sneaky behavior!
This restaurant is frequented by many locals, but I believe it is overhyped. The food is mediocre and the prices do not justify it. Their specialty, the smoked duck, is nothing remarkable.
I came to this restaurant solely for the dumplings - we tried the rag, chicken, pan-fried, and soup dumplings. We ate until we were completely satisfied! The food was absolutely delicious and definitely worth the trip to Richmond Hill.
There was no service in this restaurant. The waitress rushed to order shortly after the arrival. It took five minutes to get some cut garlic. I checked my bill, unfotunately after I gave her the money, and noticed that she... I overloaded about $1.50. When I asked, the waitress always lied about it. She said she made a mistake by being in a wrong article with a higher price, but compensated us by introducing an open element for one of the dishes and the whole should be right. Obviously it was wrong. She then said she didn't understand why there was a computer error, but the sum was right. I told her I was overloaded at $1.50, but I wouldn't ask her to give it back to me. I'm not going back.
This was a substandard lunch. : I really don't know what the hype is. After an early day of work for me, we and I headed to Times Square at Leslie and Hwy 7 for lunch. We picked Northern Dumpling Kitchen 興隆軒 as we noticed...through the restaurant windows that there were so many customers dining inside! If a place is packed for a random Thursday lunch time, it must be somewhat good! We got seated immediately. The restaurant offered a huge variety of Chinese (Shanghainese? dishes in their a la carte menu as well as a Monday to Thursday lunch special. Although the lunch specials were a good deal, the dishes featured on it didn’t appeal to our tastes that day. Instead, we ordered three items to share. The Dan Dan Spicy Noodle was okay. I liked the taste of the semi spicy soup base. It had noodles in a spicy soup base with peanuts scattered on top. My mom didn’t like the lukewarm soup broth and neither did I. Even for me, it felt like the soup wasn’t hot enough. The Leek Egg Pancake looked good and was packed full of cut-up scrambled eggs, leeks, and some vermicelli. However, it was not fried crispy enough and the shell was rather soft and soggy. My mom also said there was a lack of fragrant taste of leek. The Pan Fried Cabbage and Pork Dumplings were the only better item of the three. It had a thin dumpling skin with a juicy inside with lots of dumpling soup in it. The dumpling could have been pan fried just a tad more to give off a more fragrant taste though. There were so many customers dining in here that I felt perplexed because the food wasn’t very good. Perhaps it’s cheap prices that draw them in? Hmm..
