The owner is incredibly rude, she snapped at me when I asked politely if I could use the toilet, she went on to explain bluntly and almost in a shouting manner that the toilet was being repaired and then when I asked politely if she knew of any other toilets I could use on the road she just shouted NO .. She also spoke to all of my friends poorly, I was really confused to why she would speak to us like that when there were six of us getting a sandwich and coffee, everybody said they enjoyed their food, but the atmosphere was awful, we all felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome.
I love Peggy 's Pantry. It 's the cafe version of 'Cheers ' where everyone knows you. Pop in for a coffee and you are treated to local gossip and great chit chat. Everyone joins in. Especially like the tuna mayo on focaccia. On a rainy day nothing beats the warmth of a nice coffee and the feeling you belong.
Peggy will look after you. Great coffee cakes, sandwiches (and chat)! Went there last week try the bacon and cheese toasties!
After a long journey, mostly along the road less travelled and with a change at Clapham Junction, I chanced upon Peggy 's in the beautiful hamlet (other cigars are available) of Strawberry Hill. She greeted me with warmth and we shared an anecdote or two about the use of existentialism in Dostoevsky 's later work. 'Do you have eel? ' I asked with a twinkle in my eye... 'No Sir ' said she... 'But will a surfeit of lampreys on olive focaccia do? ' 'Just the ticket! ' said I 'And I only have 42 seconds to catch my train '. She set to, spreading merrily, and I made the Kingston train with time to spare and a well good sandwich. All in all, a lovely visit.
