Food has changed I am sorry to say. Just had breakfast and the usual high quality is not there. My country ham was “bits pieces” not one full piece; the biscuits were more like cornbread; and the gravy was bland they must have someone new cooking because I’ve been eating here for 50 years
It's a great place for the whole family to eat. They make homemade American food. So if you don't feel like cooking a big meal then just go to Clarence's and order a hot one. They have a kids menu also so the kids shouldn't have a problem finding something on the menu. They have quick waitress service. It's a good atmosphere with good food and good people.
We went on a Sunday a little after supper time. They have their meat and 3 veggies for a reasonable price. I wished I had picked a different meat other than the southern fried chicken it was not really crispy it was tender but the breading and skin was soggy. The sides were all good. Between my guy and myself we got all different ones and they were all very good (especially the black eyed peas and white sweet corn, could've just had those and been happy). The rolls were a plus too. We followed it up with carrot cake and it was delicious! The staff was friendly and like any good mom and pops they have tomatoes and honey you can purchase at the counter.
Clarence's is a reliably good place to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Good, down home cooking, different plate specials every night. Tonight I had the special of a 6 oz. NY strip with either butterfly shrimp or chicken tenders (I chose shrimp), tossed salad, choice of potato and either rolls or hush puppies for only $10.95! Delicious and more than I could eat.
