One of the few open sugar huts in August around watch. very warm welcome from the boss and his son. aperitif meals copied almost to digestive will (whisky to maple!). visit of the factory (even if it doesn't turn in August) by the boss himself, a backpacker who made the world tour at 20 years, before returning to settle there, in the middle of the woods, like his great father. visit of the bakery (they make a great bread themselves). All in a rustic and authentic setting. a very good stop.

We visited la Sucrerie on Easter weekend 2017 as a family of 5 with 3 teenage daughters. I was born and raised in Quebec and have been to many many cabanes a sucre. Actually there are many much closer to where my relatives live, but I chose to try something new to introduce my children to this experience. La sucrerie did not let me down! They went out of their way to give the place a really traditional feel: the location, the buildings, the decor, the massive fireplaces, the musicians, the uniforms, etc. The serving staff was friendly and helpful, and I really appreciated the long family style tables and service (tight fit and not super comfortable, but definitely traditional). The food was ok to good. In fact better than most of the cabanes I have been to in the past. Eggs, bacon (oreilles de christ) and ham were excellent, meatballs, potatoes, beans were good, I did not care that much for the tourtiere (too doughy).? The pea soup was not very good at all, so don’t waste your appetite on that. The tarte au sucre though was delicious! Definitely rivals my mom’s (if you like that stuff)! My kids loved the crepes too which were nice and fluffy. Only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars would be an improved menu: better tourtiere and some good pork sausage, yum!For those of you who are visiting Quebec, THIS is the place to experience the cabane a sucre! Please keep in mind that going to the cabane is about the experience, and NOT only about eating. If you are expecting a 5 star meal, a cabane a sucre is NOT the place to go. You will be disappointed. (Note: I am also fascinated by the fact that some people apparently visit in summer or fall, I did not even know that was possible! Go in the spring if you can so you can get the full experience with snow on the ground, and see the old man boiling the syrup and making taffy)!
