The cashier's desk is still an old tile countertop, and the meal took about 5-10 minutes. The company is famous for its chicken, which they cook Chinese Style, similar to the style used with Peking Duck at Chinese restaurants. The chicken isn't bad at all, but sometimes it lacks a certain level of quality freshness I've had at newly roasted rotessierie chicken from Costco, a pack at Chooks to Go, and even from Jollibee. The flavoring itself is unique and actually a delight. Don't order the Seafood Chopsuey, it had breaded fish, and breaded is a No-no in the Philippines (except for KFC, McDo, Jollibee and other Fried Chicken places). The vegetables were probably frozen, and the sauce was poured on like soup. The Beef Ampalaya had barely beef on it, more ampalaya, and so as much sauce that you won't even taste the beef anymore. Don't eat here unless you're ordering the chicken... and try to order during the day, while you're sure the chicken is fresh.
Chicken is still good. But their sauce seem diluted, no the same as when 20 yrs ago
Savory Restaurant used to be a childhood favorite. Their food is good but most probably it was because they had a section where they sell candies and other goodies that any kid would love. Their original chicken is what they are known for and it is quite tasty. Like any other Chinese restaurant, their specialties include the Bird's Nest Soup, Crabmeat and Corn Soup, their Sotanghon and Bihons, etc. The sad part though, is that Savory never tried to keep up with the changing times. It would be good if their food remained consistently delicious, but I tried it recently and sadly, it was very different. Leaving the restaurant, I felt quite dizzy and light headed, only to realize that my friends felt the same. I think they put too much MSG in their food now and the chicken that we ordered was so skinny, I wanted to feed it the Yang Chow rice we just had. Hopefully they bounce back from this, so sad to see a childhood favorite deteriorate.
Coming from a Chinese family, I grew up eating Savory Chicken. I had them during special occasions at my grandma's house, I had them when we had guests at our house, and I had them when my mom was too busy to cook for the day I decided just to have two whole chickens to be delivered to our house. Savory Chicken brings back so many good memories of good and lots of laughter. Their sauce is so addicting as I love to slather it on top of my rice. Sometime, I like mixing the sauce with some banana ketchup to produce that sweet and salty mixture. Makes it even better! So I was heartbroken to learn about the fire that recently happened at their main Escolta restaurant. Hopefully, this well-loved restaurant will get back to business pretty soon. While there are plenty of other Savory branches in the Metro, nothing beats the original Savory.
I grew up eating Savory Chicken every Sunday when I would eat in my grandparent's house. I think it's a tradition for them to serve this. But as years passed by, I finally had the guts to tell them that I'm so sick of the chicken anymore. But to be honest if I didn't eat this every week, I would say I like this chicken! They have this distinct sauce that so addicting! I even place it on top of my rice! Because of sauce, I get to eat white meat (yes, this is me who loves to eat dark meat all the time). Oh and I make sure the rice that's serve to me is sort of sticky. I don't know for some reason I love sticky rice, well basically with anything! But sticky rice and Savory Chicken, now that's such a good combination! I know they have this now in food courts I suggest you split a whole chicken among your friends!
