Environment characteristic service courteous and impeccable. Really good dishes
To start with I had trouble finding any menus online for Christmas Day lunch; I was worried we wouldn't find anywhere to pre-book that wasn't a very expensive large hotel. I knew I wanted to find an autentic restaurant for Christmas Day lunch in the Trastevere area and eventually Checco Er Carettiere popped up on my rader. After a few friendly emails we were booked in. The four course set (with choices) menu looked great and as soon we were seated we and seen the food being delivered to other tables we knew we'd made a great choice. We were served by an extremely professional gent (annoyed I can't remember his name) and his recommendations on the wine and food choices were welcomed. The courses weren't served too fast, or too slow, just right. Each were fanstic and it really felt like were eating with the locals. I would feel very confident recommending this hotel even when it isn't Christmas and if I find myself in Rome again, I will definitely return.
We visited this restaurant twice in early November on a local's recommendation. The food and service were exceptional both nights. We ordered Roman and Jewish style artichokes and the chicory salad, all were delicious. The spaghetti cacio e pepe and bombolotti all’amatriciana were sublime.
Fabulous dinner at an old fashioned Roman restaurant in Trastevere. There are no surprises on the menu just all the Roman culinary classics but everything is done well and the waiting staff are old pros who know how to make you feel welcome. The grappa selection is unmissable with some rare concoctions, including a tawny coloured, soft “morbido” grappa that is flavoured with chamomile.
