My sister found this restaurant on Facebook and suggested we drive to Rooty Hill for our NYE lunch (about 40 minutes on the M4). It was definitely worth the trip! We had the best Indo-Fijian curries we've ever had in Sydney. The masala and spices tasted authentic, just like the curries in Fiji. The meat was incredibly tender and the cheese naan was huge, almost the size of a regular pizza. The portions were much more generous than those at other Indian restaurants in Sydney. Tatas is a family-run restaurant, with Pillay and his wife cooking all the delicious dishes fresh, while their son and daughter take care of the customers. The interior is simple but clean, welcoming, and comfortable. To top it off, they also had homemade ice blocks for dessert in three flavors: pineapple, orange, and raspberry, which were incredibly delicious. Definitely worth a special trip (or a detour). We will definitely be back.
On Saturday, we ordered the Highway dish and were told it would be ready in 90 minutes. However, it took another 15 minutes for our food to be prepared. The small containers used for takeout made a mess, so larger containers would be preferable. Despite these drawbacks, the restaurant's ambiance was charming and evoked nostalgia for those missing Indian and Chinese cuisine from Fiji.
The restaurant has simple furniture and layout, but don't let that deceive you because the food is fantastic! Definitely worth a visit, especially if you have a large group and want a budget-friendly option. Don't miss out!
Average location, but good service and tasty food ... and it is spicy! It isn't the heavy Indian curry style more the Fijian fusion ... lots of flavour and did I say spicy? If you don't like HOT then don't go there ... if...you do, then you will not be disappointed.
