Angry Whelk - Rother

The fish shop was packed with fresh seafood. We bought lobsters, crabs and prawns. If we had a chance we would have gone back. Unfortunately it was closed on a Wednesday. Definitely perfect for the person who wants to cook it at home.

We were so thrilled to discover this gem of a restaurant as tourists. The Fish Shop right on the waterfront offers fresh catches from their own boat. I picked up some delicious huge scallops cooked in garlic, as well as some large plaice and a pint of plump prawns for my 98-year-old father (which he devoured in record time). Everything was carefully packed in ice for my trip home, and the service was incredibly friendly. I highly recommend this spot and will definitely be back again. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Extremely shocked by the treatment to me and my twin babies by the owner. I stopped outside the shop for a moment to reapply sun cream to my two babies while my mum went and bought us a drink. I was then “welcomed” by a very angry whelk of an owner to be told I shouldn’t be outside his shop if I don’t want anything!! Safe to say that neither me, nor anyone else who witnessed will ever be buying our seafood from here!

Always a warm welcome, good choice of fresh fish, and the man is happy to fillet any fish as you want it. Good service. Not a bad price, very reasonable. Must be good as a seagull was sitting outside the door!
