We are a group of ladies who meet up regularly for food aged 50+. We went for lunch on the 17/2/24. We were given a table in what I would call the snug. The drinks arrived but we 're not as ordered. We were given Coors lager Shandy in half pint glasses when we had ordered halves of Coors lager. We all had mains. The food was large portions. Majority of the party enjoyed the Food. We were asked if we would like a second round of drinks. We ordered Coors again. This time we were served pints instead of halves as we had had previously. We kept the drinks and shared between the non drivers as we did not want to make a fuss. We then ordered desserts. Once again the dessert order was incorrect. Cream Instead of the requested ice cream. The custard was cold. Again we didn 't want to make a fuss. We asked for the bill which came to 196.85. We took our time as we split the bill between us and counted out the money to 197.00. A waitress came over and said we had 10mins as the table was needed as it was booked out. At no point had we been made aware that it was reserved. Other establishments normally put a sign saying reserved for a certain time. We were made to feel that we had outstayed our welcome. We gave her the bill and payment. We were going to leave a tip ,as we would normally do on the table ,but the waitress came back with the 15p change and said with an attitude 'there is your change if you want it that is ' I can only assume the attitude of the waitress was because we did not include a service charge when we paid the bill. As mentioned we would have left a tip but due to the attitude of the said waitress we decided not too. Don 't think we will be booking the George in the future. Food good, service needs working on.
Visited with friends and family today for Sunday lunch, having been in the week before and having a good meal. The roast dinner was dreadful beef as tough as old boots and covered in fat, dry, hard, chicken breasts and stuffing from a packet. Rock solid roast potatoes and a very small selection of vegetables on the plate. Very very poor and certainly won’t be returning.
Great pub in the heart of Wentworth, Rotherham. The staff were so welcoming and attentive. The decor is delightful and cosy. Food amazing, great choices and cooked perfectly.
Not having been for many years but having moved nearer and now with a dog to take account of, this seemed to be a good option and so it turned out. Being the Saturday before Christmas, it was really busy but nevertheless a friendly welcome and our pre booked table was ready on time plus well located for keeping the family pooch from wanting to get too friendly with the several other well behaved dogs who were also in. A nice menu with some additions to the typical pub menu. Our choices were: Steak Pie, Venison Burger, Fettucine and Pheasant with all four being deemed very good. Two people had to drive so only two alcoholic drinks, those being Acorn Brewery IPA (very pleasant) and Merlot (the latter judged better than a more expensive Merlot at a gastro pub earlier in the week). All in all, very enjoyable and yes we will be back.
Wentworth is a lovely village with many places to visit including the wonderful Wentworth Woodhouse stately home. If you go there add to your visit with a meal at the George Dragon. A lovely pub inside serving a good variety of beers excellent food. Our walking group went there for lunch after a walk around Wentworth Elsecar. There were 10 of us to help we had pre-ordered. The food was served quickly was of excellent quality. Staff are very helpful friendly.
