Good selection even buckwheat ones. Party of 10, all pleased afterwards, 1 even had seconds! Try the special if you can't decide, and/or a simple lemon juice one if in doubt. English menus available. Big parties may struggle to get tables together during busy times. Service was quite good considering how busy it was.
Walked into the restaurant at opening time, doors were open, were told to wait 10 minutes somewhere else instead of being sited. We hung around right in front of the restaurant while we he waitress calmly set tables outside for the next 15 minutes. She walked inside when she was done setting tables, didn't invite us in, and turned away two girls who got in while she was inside.I could only imagine how bad the actual service would be after that display of hosting prowess, so we walked away and ended up eating at a nearby burger joint.Very disappointed as I was looking forward to their galettes and crepes and drinking the famous normand cider, but not this time!
There is potential here - the food is a type that can be simple and wholesome to achieve its maximum potential and there are good local ciders. It does not quite get there and given the location, I think that this justifies the average rating. Some of the food is hastily made and is not quite fully warm. There is no excuse for the cider to be served at room temperature if it is properly stored. This felt like a classic tourist trap meal and it really should not do as that is not obviously what the restaurant was aiming at. For the size of the place, the service is quite adequate and when I was caught in traffic on a Friday night, they were very accommodating in moving the reservation despite being busy. I think that the prices are too high and this is because of the lack of competition and some complacency. I often feel that the expectations on regional restaurants with seasonal tourism and little passing trade are too high, particularly on price for a business that has to stay alive by getting it consistently right in a way that we might forgive a neighbourhood bistro in a city. Unfortunately, I think that a restaurant serving an all-season favourite in a perfect city centre location in Normandy should have more pride in its produce and be able to hit a high standard. The fact that this restaurant is coasting at a mediocre level is a shame. For the same price, you can have a prix fixe at a local auberge that you would happily pay twice the price for given the stellar quality - the fact that you leave here feeling that you overpaid and had a good cider ruined is rather disappointing.
Dropped in for lunch On a cold February day - great cider and savoury filled pancakes finished off with salted caramel and coffee.
