The person taking orders over the phone is unable to communicate properly in English. They were disrespectful and rude when I asked them to follow my order. Not recommended.
Mama calabar is in the high street, edgware, middlesex, I have gone there today, very comprehending what I will find. the reason was that I was taken back by some of the negative reviews, but decided for. the round trip taxi ride alone from portman sq to mama calabar was gpb and the meal was eba, milde egusi suppe with a prise bitter vacation, fresh fish and nigerian little stout was I necessary to fix my carb addicts apart from me. I was pleasantly surprised. first was the position on the floor road level. no missing letters in the name, clean black covered chairs and white table covers. it was an invitation open. Before I could sit down, I asked to talk to the owner who came over. we exchanged plasantries and I told her about my fears about the reviews. She validated her and kept her focus, who kept her up for years. some of their best and famous customers and awards have been named. I saw many stops to order. I am not a food critic and a visit may not be an end, but I must say that my positive experience is far superior to others. the egusi suppe was superb and lite and the eba was just the right softness. the menu was extensive, but I already knew what I wanted. the service was fast and I was out under minutes. forget the experience of the old and give it another go. mama! calabar is in a new location with a new flare for authentic Nigerian/African food. I recommend it without reservations.
This is a restaurant that is of those who have nostalgic for a taste of home or for those who do not have to receive any knowledge of Nigerian food. it was really cruel, the suya was tiny with meat that could have been all, dry and... it was terrible. the moin coin was subdued with nothing, poorly grounded beans and no taste. my nabenmahlzeit was a big disappointment-rock-hard-oxtail with suppe that did not season or taste. they have to get their game up, that's far down par. the worst is that is not cheap. avoid this place if they want a beautiful evening out and please don't take any non-nigerian guests here, they will mock when they think this represents nigerian eating. it doesn't!
A friend who rated the restaurant average told me about the place. I read many bad reviews before I went on my two-hour trip to wembley. parking was not a problem this day, as parking was scored in the environment. The...restaurant sign, with missing letters, was hidden by a large overgrown tree from all the street. I cost minutes looking for the restaurant. After talking to the restaurant, I got description and direction to get to the place. for a Saturday afternoon it was quite quiet when I arrived, I was the only waiting customer. shortly after, some of the masters came in and I stood out from their comments that it was unusually quiet for a Saturday. my order arrived within minutes. sawed yams, edikaikong and nkwobi. I did not find the taste of the suppe very pale. they had bitter leaf and spinat somehow used (this was specified in the menu), but I do not think that the former is in the original recipe for the suppe. I refused the nkwobi because it was only a cheeky foot (I later realized I was thinking about isi ewu when I ordered nkwobi). the nkwobi was not added to my bill. the waiter who served me was a nice, polite heart. the restaurant was quite spacious and tidy. I used the toilets and they were in a clean condition. for a two-course menu and a bottle malt, I paid a princely total, the quality of food does not meet my expectations and I would not go back. I would recommend it only if they had no taste of Nigerian food for months or years, and only needed something to relieve it.
We went to mama calabar for our dads birthday it was a terrible experience. The food had a delay coming out and when it did come out it was tasteless we asked the lady politely to replenish the serving dishes as we had paid...her for a buffet meal and the response we got was there will be no more food coming out. When we asked her about the conflicting information we were told that she does not have to answer to us and was extremely rude and unhelpful so in actual fact she charged for a buffet meal but the serving in the dishes were per head as she refused to replenish the dishes. The lady also refused for us to put candles in our dads birthday cake on one of her serving tables when asked why she informed us that there is an extra charge for this. The plates we used were not cleared off the table and when we asked her about this she informed us that she was short on staff and she was doing this to help us ummm help us when over of us were paying per head for a meal and for kids). . It was such a let down and we will never go there again.
