Make sure you order the experience including soup, wine and dessert. Also get the fire water for a fun ending. The best restaurant we have been to here . We want to go back !
Our dinner at the Quinto do Martelo restaurant was absolutely divine. Gilberto, the owner, gave us a very warm welcome. Paul was very attentive to our needs, with his energy and humour. The dishes they recommended (discovery of typical dishes) were absolutely fantastic, the tastes, the textures... authentic cooking, raw flavours, no fuss and very generous quantities. I'd recommend it a thousand times over, once to discover it, and again because... once you've tasted the orange pudding, you've got to go back. You can go there with your eyes closed not to mention the breathtaking location and region !
The food is delicious! As a local I was a bit annoyed that they kept trying to force Alcatra (a typical beef stew) on the four of us, when they had a menu full of traditional dishes we could choose from. In the end we had their recommended starters, the beef alcatra, sweet bread (massa sovada), beef steak grilled on a clay pan, chips, fried yam (asked for a side portion so my English guest could try it, I recommend you do too) and Verdelho (white wine from Terceira). All of if was tasty, and the house itself was beautiful and quaint. 10/10 would recommend. Also, for some reason that no one can quite understand, the restaurant is usually empty, so if you like quiet places (like we do) this is the restaurant for you.
Original, lovely venue, with traditional food (alcatra) that was very well prepared. The waiters were extremely friendly. Food was excellent as was the wine.
FANTASTIC!!! The best restaurant we’ve tried on Terceira. So many reasons to like: organic farm and animal stewardship, Kangen water, lovely historic restaurant in an old home with plenty of character and mementos, an old fashioned store up front with all of the fresh vegetables, wares, and instruments. The owner Gilberto met us at the door and gave a history of the home and restaurant, got to know us, and ordered our meal on our behalf, knowing which would be most delicious. The food was outstanding!! Food with roots and soul! Authentic cuisine. Appetizer of a variety of beans (the fava were amazing), delicious fresh salad, bread and fresh butter, and an exceptional soup!! For the main course the beef alcatra was divine!!! Fall off the bone tender, excellent flavor and seasoning. And a lovely wine to pair with all. Our servers were kind and attentive thank you, Paul! The experience was such as dining in a family home. We will definitely be back again.
