Wasabi Sushi is one of those mediocre restaurants because it doesn't know how to run a business. The sushi is good so let's get that out of the way. While other sushi restaurants around it are drawing crowds, you'll never have a problem getting a table because the place is huge but it's tired looking and really needs a remodel and some marketing expertise. It's right on the busiest streets in Pacific Beach and it owns a large parking lot so there's no excuse for its success but I've never been in there with more than ten diners. (It could easily hold 100. . So the bottom line is: if you're craving for sushi (and it's cheap , you can't go wrong with Wasabi because there's no waiting, the sushi's good and circling endlessly to find parking won't be an issue. Just have an extra sake and have your own little party because there probably won't be anyone else in there.
We were excited to try fresh sushi since we were so close to the coast and this place came up with some good reviews so we decided to give it a shot. The wait staff was friendly and the food was great. We had a party of six and this was one of our cheapest meals we ate out at during our vacation because of the 1/2 price rolls. We were a little disappointed that they did not offer the all you can eat the night we went in since it was the night before Thanksgiving and they were short staff, but we still left full.
I have been to this restaurant quite a few times either to dine in or for take out. I like the fact that it is a great place for a large table and the prices are very reasonable. The salmon skin salad used to be the best but I am guessing the person that made it so good is no longer working there. The skin was really crunchy! The sushis are good and the products fresh. Good choice for large groups and good prices!
We were driving by and saw their sign for 50% off and just had to stop and so glad we did. True, only the rolls were 50% off but you need to read the menu and ask questions. We had spicy tuna rolls and they were wonderful. The rolls had a large amount of nicely flavored spicy tuna. For $21 we got 4 rolls and two drinks. Hard to beat for such fresh food in a nice atmosphere. We will definitely return.
