I hope that music/ entertainment is able to be offered at reasonable times...as I can see this being very popular. Please go and if you're here, tell Chris that Chris sent you! ^
After an early morning walk around the village it was great to relax over coffee in this Mots inviting café. The owner was happy to chat and our attempts to speak French. We even had a visit to Le Maire, who told us about the village and even brought us literature. If you are close, please go with, you will not be disappointed.
We visited a very rainy cold day in October. Had beautiful hot chocolates and cakes after a wet walk through the village and down to the river. Very warmly welcomed by the Scottish owner with whom we had a nice chat while our 18 month old loved playing with the toy in the back room.
St Ceneri is a small village close to Alençon. It has beautiful gardens, churches and the river Sarthe flows sleepily around the town. La Taverne Giroise is located in the heart of St Ceneri and has both a front terrace and garden area, from which...you can sit and observe while enjoying great coffee, refreshments, ice-creams and light lunches. The homemade cakes and pastries are truly some of the best I have ever tasted. Jennifer and Anthony are very hospitable and make this one of the highlights of a day in the village. With Scottish roots they also offer a wide selection of whiskies and beers and are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the town. Much recommended, I look forward to seeing you both again soon. The cafe is open between 8am to 6:30pm, Saturday to Wednesday.
Very friendly little restaurant in this tourist village. Run by a couple of Scottish ex pats, French, English and Scottish all spoken. We had light lunches of quiches and sandwiches, with drinks. Enjoyed it so much, we popped in the next day too. The village is...not big and the other two restaurants are more formal affairs. This is a bit more casual, and none the worse for that too. It would be easy enough to pop in just for a coffee and to use the wifi while you're touring the Alpes Mancelles. As with everything on the main road through the village, there's no car parking outside there's a large public carpark by the river, 100m from the Taverne, although access is down a steep paved path.
