J. Smugs Gastropit - Saint Louis

This place is far superior to Sugar Fire! I enjoyed everything I tried, and I can't wait to return. The prices are a bit steep for lunch, but the quality makes it worth it. A friend who delivers for DoorDash suggested we check it out, and I hadn't heard of it before. I was truly impressed! This must be one of the best, if not the absolute best, Cuban sandwiches I've had in the area.

When our party arrived a little later in the evening, they had run out of brisket, but they generously offered us plenty of pork instead. The macaroni was decent, but I absolutely loved the cauliflower and beans. The ribs were fantastic too! We ended up buying a bottle of their vinegar-based Carolina sauce, and now I wish we had purchased more. However, I have to deduct some points for the veggie burger. One person in our group is vegetarian, and when I tried a bite, I regretted it. It was rather bland and tasted a bit like overcooked vegetables on a bun. Maybe it’s meant to be dressed up with sauce? Regardless, everything else was fantastic!

Got carryout a few weeks ago. So, so good! Loved the bbq chicken club. Excellent service, definitely will be back.

Ribs, chicken, pork, asian beef burnt ends...it's all so good. Amazing bbq and insanely cravable sides. I am definitely getting this in my routine.

My benchmark for assessing a restaurant is a pulled pork sandwich, and Smugs has definitely excelled in that regard. The ribs are smoky and flavorful, the pork is incredibly tender, and the fries are perfectly crispy. The staff is wonderful, and the bar selection is impressively diverse. This is an outstanding St. Louis BBQ experience!
