I should have learned now that large characters who say the English menu are often a warning, but it rained and my English companion saw a free table. The initial reception was good, the serving for the drinks friendly then came the male waiter................ I... ordered chipirons, one of my favorite dishes and one I prepare myself and cook myself: it was one of the most expensive dishes and was openly disgusting. The meal contained what looked like a piece of plastic bag, but could have been the central spine of one of the chipirons. The chipirons had a very unpleasant taste and were a strange brown color and with a texture unlike any chipiron I've ever eaten, I left most meals. It took some time to free my mouth of terrible to taste. When the waiter took my largely unleavened meal, I told him that it didn't taste well, he crumbled and said aggressively before he left that others had eaten it and not complained. My thoughts are that these chipirones were a very long way of fresh and possibly precooked, frozen and reheated in a microwave. The accompanying somewhat devastated salad leaf has absolutely no similarity to the picture on the website of this restaurant, which I later consulted. People on the adjacent table were eating fish that seem okay. My partner Poke Bowl was just over enough. For me this is the type of tourist place that only succeeds due to its location and that its customers are renewed, but probably never come again. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
Great setting overlooking the port in St Martin de Ré. Good range of food and drink choices. Attentive and friendly staff. What more could you want! We stopped for a late lunch and we're satisfied with our moules and sardine plats. A glass of wine...each pouilly fusé for my partner and sancerre for me nicely topped off the food. Highly recommended.
We usually go where most people seem to eat. The staff was pleasant enough and the service was very fast. I grilled sardines and my wife had pizza. My sardines were almost black and very dry. They were served with limp salad and... some half-heated potatoes that were not very good. Too expensive and powerful.
One of the few places left open, (why do restaurants close at 13:30!! . Had the plat du jour, 2 shrimp amazing but messy, 2 pate all of us went for the steak. All the food came out pretty quick and was well cooked and presented....Staff were pleasant and friendly. Beer and wine were good and cold. Great place to people watch and just have a drink and relax. We would have liked to have come back in the evening. Definitely worth a visit.
