We had the wonderful chance to go to L 'En-Tailleur, in Saint Pierre d 'Orleans, Quebec, Canada. More than eight generations of the Tailleur family have lived and worked on Île d 'Orléans, perpetuating all the warmth and charm of the great local traditions down through time. Nestled in the heart of the village of St-Pierre , between river and countryside, L 'En-Tailleur beckons to visitors with its utterly authentic décor and atmosphere. I quoted this to give one an accurate description of this great place! We went here on a cruise excursion, with our excellent and amazing tour guide, Neil. He introduced us to our guide, who happens to be the ninth generation of this maple producing family business. The Sugar Shack, which is part of this restaurant, was very interesting as we learned how real maple syrup was made. We even got to try sweet maple taffy! What fun experiencing this! After being able to sample the taffy and look around the store to buy some of the wonderful treats there, we were treated to a real French pastry in the restaurant. If you get a chance to go on an excursion or just traveling to Saint Pierre d 'Orleans, Quebec, Canada, make this a must see stop!
During our day tour, we made a stop at this restaurant to learn about the process of collecting maple syrup. It was a fun and educational experience! We learned that it takes 40 parts of sap to make one part of syrup, and the syrup produced here is top-notch. At the end of our visit, we were able to try some syrup poured over ice and use a stick to twirl it around like a lollipop. Our guide shared the interesting story of how maple syrup was discovered by a trapper accidentally licking sap off an arrow. It was a delicious discovery that led to the creation of a new era. Overall, it was a fun stop with a great gift shop.
During our trip to Ontario and Quebec in March 2018, we were in search of our first cabane à sucre experience. After considering our options, we chose L'En-Tailleur because they were accommodating to our son's peanut allergy and fit our schedule. We were not disappointed with our choice! The location, though rural, offered beautiful views on the way in. The sugar shack experience was lively and the food was fantastic. The meat pie was a favorite, and the maple taffy on ice was a fun way to end the meal. Overall, it was a great food experience filled with tradition. This visit was a highlight of our trip to Canada, and we would love to return in the future.
Due to the efforts of our B B hostess, we were able to tag on to a group of Canadian high school students that this sugar shack was only opened for. This was a neat experience not just a meal. As mentioned by other reviewers, there was a brief show tell in both English and French on how maple syrup is made. From there we went inside and began the multiple courses of food. They were quite tasty. Meanwhile, their resident musician sang and played traditional songs on multiple instruments a very talented gentleman. Towards the end of the meal, he coaxed the students onto their feet to learn some traditional dances. It was all very entertaining. Meanwhile, the waitstaff efficiently took care of the large group of students and us, too. We finished up the evening by going back outside where they prepared everyone maple taffy on ice. They also have a small gift shop inside where they sell lots of maple based items and other souvenirs. Nicely done.
