So many vegan options, I have eaten at this place at least five times! the service has been extremely strange lately, although with either tiny versions of the menu or super slow service. eating can also be hot and cold. I had the charles and cheese (vegan mac and cheese) like 4 times. 3/4 times it was amazing, but once it was super lemony and rough. there are vegan crepes, ranch, parfaits, sandwiches and mac and cheese!
Update nov 2021: gulu now has much more vegan aware options, including mac and cheese, new vegan crepps (sweet and savory,) over burgermelt with cheese and ranch and more, vegan breakfast sandwich, etc. still my favorite cup coffee in the city, since I came here only 2011! really happy with the changes that make them in the city Do not forget to come here for a sit down menu in the oktober when they are a native because they must fight out a dozen angry karens, even in the line for a seat. update juli 2019: gulu has added some more vegan options, but also some taken away. they can now make vegan crepes, but the options are still missing. there is a fully vegan savory crepe called the killer tofu, but the tofu was simply very bland and sponge. the veggie burger was for a small because vegan afaik and was good, but it is no longer vegan. most menu items are far too expensive for what they are on board of territory. coffee is still brilliant! will definitely come back for the coffee. old review: gulu gulu makes my favorite cups of coffee and also favorite latte (with soy) on the north shore, but yes like the previous reviews, it is first line a bar café and is more lacking in terms of vegan menu options. that means her coffee is incredible and they own flying saucer pizza right next door that have many vegan options. updated by previous review on 2021-11-29
Their vegan cozy crepes were delicious! I wish I could have them where I live! also got the breakfast sandwich on a bagel and it was good, but it wasn't as good as the crepes!
Happy Cow won't let me rate this 5 stars since it's not a fully vegan restaurant, which is a bummer because as a vegan, I can't say enough good things about this place. Although not a vegan restaurant, they have amazing comprehensive plant-based options. I had their sweet specialty veg caramel apple crepe and savory vegan breakfast crepe the first time I went, and the Charles cheese vegan mac and cheese the second time. Holy macaroni, these were all amazing. I crave crepes always but don't have any great vegan crepe options near me, and I'm very picky with my vegan mac cheese as they're usually not very good. I only wish I got to go more times! If I ever come back to Salem, this will be my first stop, even if I have to wait 1-2 hours again for it!
