We were in the deux continueds for a night on the way between burgund and lyon so decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. we're glad we made it. it is quirkily decorated, but eating and the atmosphere was very nice, and the service friendly...and helpful. we had a starter and captain from the car, there were forellentare, chicks, small baked filets of cash (which I had never tried before.) my daughter had a nice entrecôte. eating was not super, but also not rustic. wein was good and excellent, we had a glass house vin jaune to start, then a mix of pinot Noir/Poulsard/Trousseau from domaine de la pinte. they would recommend if they were in salins (a characteristic and interesting working city.) paul
Two friends and I had lunch at this hotel in the centre of Salins-les-Bains, a lovely village in the Jura. Each one of us selected a different plat du jour' so we could get a taste of all three. All the meals were excellent and...the food was very fresh (not microwaved as it sadly is so often these days). Although we didn't have wine with our lunch, the wine list was extensive and very reasonable. We really enjoyed the old style decor in this old style hotel. The service was also impeccable. Salins-les-Bains is not mobbed by tourists which makes it a very worthwhile detour if you're travelling in that area of France or nearby Switzerland. The old salt mines and museum are also worth a visit.
Directly across the street from the Musee du Sel of the UNESCO World Heritage Site salt works in Salins les Bains is a charming 19th century hotel. On the second floor of the hotel is an equally charming restaurant serving a classic local menu in...a pleasant, friendly contemporary dining room with a view of the ancient salt works. The prices are very reasonable, we had the menu of the day for 16 Euro which included three generous courses. The cheese plate was outstanding. The trout was so fresh we actually saw the chef catching it with a net in a huge rocky fish tank in the foyer of the hotel as we entered. The service was excellent and the ambience welcoming and friendly.
