From the moment you step into the covered courtyard in the shadow of the magnificent Castello di Tabiano, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that exudes warmth, comfort, and a genuine sense of belonging. Greeted with the unmistakable aroma of delicious Italian cuisine, Oscar and his family make you feel as though they’ve known you for years and have been expecting you, ruffling the hair of the young ones, ensuring the starving teenagers had a plentiful supply of delicious bread and, when he spotted that our 11 year old son liked the look of what dad was eating, instantly supplying another portion, as though he were a favourite grandson being indulged. Chef/Owner Oscar was the on tour cook for A C Milan for many years and his menu is classic Italian home cooking at its best. Starting with the delicious anti pasta with generous piles of slices of Parma ham, Coppa and other meats. Then onto the pasta dishes where the tagliolini al limone, was a standout dish of delicate ribbons of pasta with a perfectly balanced sauce combining the zesty brightness of lemon with the richness of a creamy parmesan. The homemade pesto trofie special was also fresh, herby, rich and delicious in its simplicity. The roast meat changes daily, we visited twice (during our four days in the area so were lucky enough to sample the amazing roast pork on the first occasion and then the second time we were treated to guinea fowl which was declared to ‘taste just like Christmas’ by our son (hence the extra portion! – both were served simply with a few roast potatoes on the side and a rich shiny gravy over the top. Of course, no Italian meal is complete without a sweet ending. Home made apricot ice cream, with the apricots picked from Oscar’s garden was sublime and the warm chocolate torte was deliciously indulgent. The food at Locanda Del Colle Da Oscar is a real celebration of the area but what truly sets this place apart is their ability to make you feel like part of the family, this is genuine cooking from the heart and Oscar and his wife create an experience that's not just about eating—it's about connecting with the soul of Italy.
When you stay for a lunch or a dinner in the Oscar's Locanda you have the impression to live hundreds of years ago in a typical small village built with true stones and with family food. The food is well prepared and Oscar and his wife love to change continously the menu depending on the season and on the creativity they have, that's huge. The feeling is to eat good food and to be safe because what they prepare for you is the same they prepare for themselves. Really difficult to live a similar experience in other part of the world!
I just had to write a review of this wonderful little Osteria located right next to Castello Tabiano. We had a wonderful evening, food was made with much love by the friendly chef who had lots of genuine character and we had friendly service throughout the entire evening. This restaurant provides a great alternative to the main Antico Borgo Restaurant which offers fine dining, with lots of local specialities along with a great wine list, and was very popular with the locals always a sign of a really good restaurant. It also has a very charming outdoor area which is partly under cover to ensure all weather dining. Grazie we shall be back!
Torneremo sicuramente.
