Penny's (when it was at its old location) was always a great place for a sandwich and coffee, and even a take-home frozen dinner. Now over at the Golf Course, I feel it's gone downhill. Tried it out with some friends for dinner, and the food was just okay, the service was very slow (we were a group of 8), and the atmosphere was tacky. During the day, the view of the golf course is fun, and I think lunches are likely to be better than dinners. Try it out for a quick lunch before committing to a dinner here.
There is nothing special about this place, and the food is only average pub or cafe style. The setting itself is nice with views, but the food quality is a more important aspect to eating out than the view. We were asked if everything was alright when we were almost through our meal! it was a little expensive for what they are offering, I thought. It was ok, but I would not recommend it.
Penny's is my favourite restaurants on the island. I go quite often. Our most recent visit was for the New Years prime rib dinner. It was amazing. Cooked to perfection and so many delicious sides to choose from. I'm never disappointed leaving penny's. Whether it's for a quick grab and go or staying in it's always delicious. Her home made pastry and desserts are to die for. I try to try something new every time I go in and I'm never disappointed. Great staff, great location and penny is always there which I think is amazing. I admire penny's skills, she's a great woman and a great cook. You don't be disappointed leaving penny's.
We heard great things about the place and were optimistic, but we couldn't see all the fuss. Setting was pleasant on the golf course. All the food was just ok. My ham sandwich had much too much butter on the bread -kind of ruined it for me...Grandpa had seafood chowder -he liked the flavour, but felt it was thin, lacking in seafood bits. My daughter liked the grilled cheese sandwich, made on their in-house baked bread. The service was fast and courteous, but the drinking water tasted like it came out of an old fish tank. We were told that it was lake water and that is the norm. Do yourself a favour and order bottled water right off the hop.
