Feedback gevenVery good entrees: we had the calamari, nice service very good wine. The steaks could be better......
We went to this restaurant on the advice of the chap I bought my new fabulous boots from. My husband asked which was his favorite restaurant in town and this was it. Substantially cheaper than any of the other restaurants we had tried up to then. We were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine on the house. The menu was really substantial but with an emphasis on meat (now for something completely different!). Our server was really nice and between us we managed to make sense of one another. We chose a bottle of Colome Malbec which was excellent. We decided to share the mixed Parrilla which had a bit of everything....chicken, beef rib, pork, sausage (and a few unidentifiable creatures!). The chicken especially was wonderful.....tender and juicy. It is amazing how much flavor they get from the grill...no sauces or accompaniments are needed. We had a salad as a side dish which was more than sufficient and we couldn't finish the parrilla!
A very favourable location just a short distance back from the Plaza. El Solar has excellent waiters, enjoyable food and after a month of wandering about the NW of Argentina from Mendoza, this was the first restaurant to offer us a glass of complementary Champagne on seating. Popular with local,and we did arrive early as it fills quickly and thus avoided long wait for order. We would return, if in the area again.
Very pleasant restaurant near the main square. Do not visit too early in the evening as it will be nearly empty as the locals eat quite late. The food was of extremely good quality. Jorge, our waiter, needs mentioning as he was so pleasant and made our evening. If you like white wine, you must try the Torrontes grape, the like of which I have never tasted before, so fruity!
And by a customer having a mobile phone conversation using speakerphone! They should say something to these people.I tried rabbit for a change. Usual story for Argentina, nice bit of meat but they had done nothing with it. Their idea of cooking seems to end at slapping the meat on the grill.
