Oldest un-rebuilt bar in San Francisco, with tons of character. This place is a deep SF dive, and worth a visit. Live music multiple times a week. The crusty North Beach regulars may give you side-eye, but the bar staff is always friendly and attentive, even to tourists.
The Saloon is the Best Live Music venue in America. There is no doubt about it.
The House is an asian fusion restaurant located in North Beach area next to the famous Stinking Rose and the equally famous Big Al’s adult bookstore. The quality of the food, the price, and the service are so in sync that it is difficult to leave this restaurant unhappy (i.e. I was really satisfied). An interesting characteristic of this restaurant is that although they have a fixed menu, when we arrived, the waiter provided an additional ~10 choices to the menu (split between some appetizers, desserts, but mostly entrees) which change frequently (he said). Ups: Good food! Metropolitan, modern interior and atmosphere Interesting asian fusion drink selection Downs: A little cramped seating Bottom line: An excellent choice for a dinner at any time. Couples good food at the appropriate price with an varied selection. Possibly the best recommendation was provided by the people (from out of town) sitting next to me at the restaurant: “When I do make it to the bay area, I always come here and Chez Panisse [in Berkeley]”
Delicious experience. from the oysters on the half shell, wasabi noodles, sea bass, tuna tartare w/nori chips, roasted unagi, to the passion creme brulee, every bite, every time has been a memorable one. highly reccommend reservations on weekend peaktimes since this is a small space.
