I kind of wish it was more soul food like greens that type of thing. And I did not care for the potato salad too mushy and odd tasting. You can tell it’s pure love being put on the grill they may not do greens because people always have an opinion about the greens. My mom did it this way my grandmother did that way all I know the southern way with barbecue potato salad and greens
Great service and atmosphere but the brisket let me down. I ordered a 1/4 pound of marbled brisket but it was a slightly tough to eat. It wasn't melt in your mouth like good brisket should be. It was not horrible but it could have been better. I would probably give them a second chance. Pinto beans were more mush than actual pinto beans but tasted pretty good. Cream Corn was ok but edible. Price was really reasonable.
They were out of pulled pork and wanted to charge extra for brisket. I opted for a combo of brisket and chicken. Both were very peppery and dry. Green beans were tasty and the peach cobbler was a nice finish. The servers were nice although I felt a bit rushed. Table and booth seating very relaxed atmosphere but kind of loud.
When I arrived at 11 AM, there was already a line, and by the time I placed my order, nearly 20 people were waiting. I opted for a two-meat plate featuring lean brisket and turkey. I appreciated that the menu has different prices for the combo plate based on the meats you choose. My meal, which included two sides, cost $12.99 plus tax and tip, making it one of the more affordable options in the city. The portions were generous and comparable to other places that charge nearly $20 for a plate. As you can see in the photo, both the brisket and turkey were juicy and well-prepared; they didn’t dry out at all. Each had a nicely seasoned bark. This is one of the rare places where I could skip the sauce because the meat is flavorful enough on its own. However, the sauce is definitely worth trying; it's runnier than most, served warm, and has a nice balance of vinegar's acidity and brown sugar's sweetness. The potato salad had good flavor but was too similar to mashed potatoes for my liking. The jalapeño mac and cheese, however, was the highlight of the meal. The macaroni was cooked perfectly, distinct from what you typically find elsewhere, and the creamy cheese sauce packed a nice kick from the jalapeños.
I’ve had a disappointing experience during my last three visits due to a lack of food options. There was no chicken or mac and cheese available, just some dry brisket. Seriously?! The staff is great, but the owners need to step up their game. It's crucial to have enough food for customers!
