The red velvet cake being covered in chocolate sauce made for an unusual presentation that distracted from the cake and cream cheese icing. Although it was New Year 's Eve, the restaurant was not crowded when we arrived, so it was unclear what caused the poor service. I 'm checking no on the recommendation at this time, as this is a pricey restaurant that should provide better service, but am willing to give it a try again in the future.
Absolutely love this restaurant! eating was amazing! our server gilbert was the epitome of professionalism! thank you. gilbert for our culinary experience that will be remembered for a very long time!
First we were in the hotel where this restaurant is located (the hotel spa mokara). this hotel is a high-end hotel with exceptional rooms and service. we would expect the restaurant to be of the same high end quality. but we were disappointed at eating. we think that eating is not the standards of the hotel. the restaurant is good, but there are too many other excellent restaurants with much higher quality of eating.
My husband and I made a dinner reservation before seeing a show at the Majestic. We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell half Canadian, half east coast. They were both great, but the east coast warranted ordering an additional half dozen. Next up we tried the pei mussels at the chefs recommendation incredible! The perfect balance of salty bites of pancetta with fresh cilantro pesto with just the right amount of heat from the serranos. Don’t forget to sop up the broth with the bread! For the main course, I had the roasted red fish. It was a generous portion size and cooked to perfection and so were the grits. My husband had the scallops which were a great choice! The scallops were done perfectly, so tender. The flavors of the leeks, butternut squash purée and lemon ginger beurre blanc were wonderful. We also shared a side of the bacon roasted brussels sprouts which were solid and another generously sized portion. For dessert, we shared a slice of cheesecake with a berry reduction which was also great. I am not typically a cheesecake fan, but enjoyed this one. Not too rich or sweet, just right. I enjoyed the Malbec and my husband had the old fashioned which had subtle heat from jalapeño agave syrup, very good. Jorge was our server who was very knowledgeable and friendly. We sat inside because it was chilly, but could have sat outside next to the river where patio heaters kept that area toasty and comfortable. We had a great dinner at Ostra and can’t wait to come back.
The food was outstanding in flavor and presentation. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. Jorge was a great server. Enjoyed his enthusiasm and friendliness. I had a Paloma to drink and it was perfect.
