Our waiter was amazing. Checked on us so many times. Of course the drinks are flawless. The Waterfall and True Azul were our crowds favorites!
Atmosphere was okay given the time of night but overall kind of lame compared to other spots. Door guy was overly aggressive and very disrespectful. Overall 5/10.
A lovely couple tend the bar with a magical attention to every single detail, to the temperature of every garnish. It’s an absolute joy to hear them speak about the love of their craft and to watch their expert mixology! Aside from them, the place leaves much to be wanted. I completely agree with reviewer Regine Faucher that this place is definitely Not a speakeasy. And reviewer Vanessa Garcia is on point that you should take your money to the cozy, tucked-away Green Lantern instead for an authentic speakeasy vibe. The pretentious “welcome to our bar” greeting when you first open the menu is red flag number one. I’m not surprised by Mariann Rodriguez’s review about the racist experience she had two weeks ago. Last night, a Black man got cutoff from being served after a white male (with the douchiest mustache you have ever seen) Karen-complained about the man’s existence. Mustache bro also stated that the word ‘Papi’ is the same as the n-word. As Karina Meyer took the time to write, there is a xenophobic atmosphere at Rock and Rye. I’m a Latina with a storied background in the Alamo City and I’ve definitely not always felt welcome in this space. While trying to enjoy a lovely Sunday, I overheard their out-of-shape security guard gloating about kicking people with status out of the establishment, such as athletes. Sure, some of those instances may have been warranted but it’s also evident some of the staff definitely gets off on playing the access card, as if this was Vicci on 4th St. in the ATX in the 2000s. The regulars include groups of suited men with fragile egos–this appears to be one of their hot spots. To be fair, I’ve only ever dropped by on a Sunday. One jersey-clad guy got kicked out and the police were called after he was hollering mad about not getting female attention. There are countless other establishments to spend your hard-earned money at in this wonderful historic city of San Antonio. If you’re at The Rim– highly recommend The General Public; their bartenders and cocktails are most certainly underrated!
Very cool whiskey bar with a somewhat 1920s vibe. I always enjoy coming here. I don't know the owners but it always see them here. Having owners involved in the business leads to good operations.
Came here for the first time and oh my god was it amazing. The female bartender made the drinks better than the guys. I’m sorry !! lol but she did and they were phenomenal. We didn’t get food just drinks. But the staff was great. The only down fall was the girls next to us all loud but hey it’s a bar of course they’re going to be. I shall return because oh my god was it ever so good.
