It was always decent. One of those affordable hole in the walls that felt cozy feeling. The food was average especially for the price. However ever since they moved locations, the food just gets worse and worse each time. I go because my dad has gone for many years and likes the food and the price... he just likes to go for the fried fish platter. I've gone 5 times since the new location. The food is so bland. The breading for the fish, onion rings, chicken fried steak is terrible. I've ordered food to go 2x as well to take home to my family. Both times I asked for gravy and cheese on the chicken fried steak AND the fries. They just don't understand exactly what that means. The first to go plate only had gravy and cheese on the chicken fried steak; not the fries. The second time, the waiter insisted I get the cheese and gravy on the side so it wouldn't make the food soggy. I thought it was a nice suggestion. They bagged it up knotted it so I would have to rip the bags open to check it. This time they completely left off the gravy and cheese. Wasn't even on the side. Sucks bc the chicken fried steak is so bad it requires the gravy to be decent. It's just frustrating. I give it 2 stars because the service is normally good. They lose stars for food taste and not following simple instructions. Don't worry though, my dad loves it and won't stop going.
I had heard of the legend, the chicken fried steak to end all chicken fried steaks. And I heard that it was at Sherry's Texan Seafood. I was not misled.Like any chicken fried steak connoisseur, I asked for the cream gravy to be on the side because otherwise it's a slight against the gods of chicken fried steak. That statement may offend some people but in order to truly enjoy a crispy fried humongous chunk of beef, you really need to have the gravy in a separate container, this is a rule I adhere to and will continue to observe until the day I die. They hooked it up. Cream gravy on the side and the steak fried to perfection. This is probably the best chicken fried steak I've had in a long time. And I'm always looking for new challengers to the throne. At this moment, I don't see any challengers to dethrone Sherry's. Even the sides were fantastic. This restaurant is out of the way for me but I will definitely be coming back. It's that good.
The wife, and I, always try new places around San Antonio. This time, it was Sherry's Texan... As soon as we walk there, I heard my wife make sounds that I reserved for using special times...?? Needless to say, the little 15-minute wait that we had, was well worth it! As we walked in, we got a chance to survey the land. 1 plate, stood out especially... The Big Texan country fried steak!!!! I had to have it!!! Worth the $14!!! And please be nice to the waitresses! They're lifting weights all day!!! ?
I Compared the Toast to the table next to us, unfortunately ours was burnt and not Texas Toast size, I should have returned but did not want to be that person. One of my sides were 2 tiny red potatoes, served plain, boiled, and cold. Do not order red potatoes unless you like them the way I described and received I returned them for mashed potatoes. I wish my waitress would have informed me that they are plain. The steak was ok, a little overcooked, not medium as requested but we ate it anyway. The jumbo shrimp and Onion rings were awesome!!! The fish was good, they had a cornmeal breading option or flour option. I went with the cornmeal option which was nice and light. Still on the fence if I would go back, it was my first time there and I really wanted to like this local place.
