The highlight of our visit was definitely getting up close to the various fierce creatures from around the globe. While some displays were well done, others left something to be desired. The section dedicated to fish felt a bit lackluster. There is also a replica of an old Western town, but it lacks the authentic atmosphere. Overall, the experience was good value for the price. Don’t expect to be blown away by this exhibit, but it’s worth a visit at least once. Thanks for reading!
The food was outstanding, and the historic ambiance was fantastic! The service was friendly and attentive.
Loved it! It's amazing looking at all those animals. The build your burger was delicious, and big! Best cheeseburger I've had all week!
My friend and I stumbled across the Buckhorn Saloon on our way to the River Walk from the Alamo. Needing an afternoon refreshment, the word “saloon” was an easy draw for two curious travelers. Oh… this place is a gem!!! Disclaimer: If you don’t like seeing taxidermy or stuffed dead animals, this is not the place for you. The saloon opened in 1881 and is reputed to be the “go to” place for cowboys coming in off the dusty trails. During that time the owner would trade with cowboys and folks, negotiating beer and whiskey in exchange for antlers and rattlesnake rattles. The owner would then use these items to create furniture or art pieces. Some pieces can be seen in the museum. But the huge collection of antlers is displayed throughout the saloon. It is also rumored that the Buckhorn is where Teddy Roosevelt recruited the rough riders. The atmosphere is definitely unique and quirky, but oh so fun. And the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming!!! Shout out to Britnie Upthegrove!! And just let me tell you about their prickly pear margarita…AUHMAZING!!! Crystalee has a great pour and made a fantastic drink. It is now my favorite drink of all time!! If you get the chance, make sure you stop by and get a drink! Visited on October 19,2023
It's great to see all the exhibits. Friendly and helpful bartender. Food is regular, nothing special. The museum admission fee is a bit pricy even with a bar discount.
