Dark Horse Coffee Roasters - San Diego

It's a good coffee shop, but what hasn't been highlighted is their decaf coffee beans. The Colombia Nariño decaf is superior to most regular coffees available, even at top-notch coffee shops. Plus, it's consistently excellent over time.

Dark Horse has reignited my passion for coffee. The atmosphere of this charming little shop is simply delightful. They offer a straightforward menu featuring exceptional coffee and an impressive selection of pastries. I must admit, I've indulged in their bagels more often than I'd like to confess... they are that good! I love the coffee so much that I even purchase their beans to brew my own at home when I can't stop by in the morning. Dark Horse is my clear favorite over Starbucks, without a doubt.

I also got a toasted everything bagel with plain cream cheese. It was 7 AM on a Monday, and they were out of plain cream cheese. They offered me a choice between vegan plain cream cheese and garlic/herb cream cheese, so I went with the garlic/herb option. Unfortunately, it was extremely cold, as it clearly had just come out of the fridge. While the bagel itself was warmed, it wasn’t actually toasted at all—no browning whatsoever—so the cold cream cheese didn’t melt at all. I didn’t even bother to finish it. The outdoor seating area isn’t great, but it works for a quick drink and snack. However, all the tables had morning dew on them, and it would be nice if the staff wiped them down at the start of the day. I ended up grabbing some napkins to clean a table myself. Overall, I don’t think I’ll return here since there are plenty of other coffee shops in the area.

Be sure to try the Salted Maple Latte! I really enjoy the combination of salty and sweet flavors. I usually bring home a bag of their roasted coffee to grind and brew myself. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I’ve never been let down by any of the drinks I’ve ordered. Oh, and they also offer donuts and other pastries!

Stopped by here today before heading home back to LA. The customer service is here is very on point. Both gentlemen were kind and super friendly. My apologies for not getting their names. I asked him what he would recommend and he said the mocha latte and the champ. I have to say he did not disappoint. I will definitely be back whenever I am back in town. Thank you!
