I enjoyed the Spicy Tuna, choosing two different types of bread: Garlic for one half and Blue Cheese for the other. It essentially gave me two sandwiches in one, showcasing all the delightful flavors of a classic tuna sandwich with a nice kick from the Habanero Mustard. They feature Napa Valley Mustards, which were new to me, and they are excellent. I also tried their popular T.A.B.L.E. sandwich, made with tomato, avocado, bacon, lettuce, and egg salad. My friend who introduced me to Rubicon added turkey to hers, and while the egg salad was quite basic, it had that comforting homemade taste. Another option is the Dom Pastrami, loaded with hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, pickles, onions, and yellow mustard. The Whales Veg sandwich includes spinach, shredded cabbage, carrots, red bell pepper, parsley, jack cheese, avocado, tomato, onion, pickles, pepperoncini, mayo, Herb of the Valley Mustard, oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Although I’m not usually a fan of veggie sandwiches, this one sounds incredible and is quite popular. What excites me most about Rubicon Deli, in addition to their potential for growth, food quality, atmosphere, and graphic design, is that they bake their own breads. And they are absolutely phenomenal! They make white, wheat, pesto, jalapeño jack, garlic, garlic cheese, and blue cheese breads from scratch every day. One thing I appreciate as a restaurateur is that the owners appear to be learning as they go, which is evident but may not be obvious to the average diner. They are still experimenting with their offerings and figuring things out, but they seem to be on the right path. If I could offer any advice, it would be to keep the best Napa Valley Mustards but also start crafting some unique house-made sauces. People love condiments, and pairing those fantastic fresh breads with original sauces would be a wonderful addition. I believe Rubicon should consider adding a bit more meat to their sandwiches, with less lettuce and a heavier emphasis on the mustard or sauce. Once Rubicon Deli finds its groove, it has the potential to become a significant player in the dining scene.
I've sampled every sandwich on the menu, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them. My personal favorite is the Rich Boy. They also include a small cookie with each sandwich, which is a nice touch. While they don’t advertise their acai bowl, I think it’s the best in town. Whenever I’m in the area, I eat here every day.
The line can get quite long during lunchtime, but it typically moves quickly. The sandwiches are absolutely delicious. A half sandwich is usually sufficient for one person, while a whole sandwich is definitely shareable. There's a small parking lot next to the laundromat with a few parking spots available.
The sandwiches were delicious, and we really enjoyed the mini cookies as well. However, the bacon potato salad was a bit lacking in flavor, so I think I'll skip it next time. We took our sandwiches to the beach and had a lovely lunch. The creative combinations of the sandwiches were a lot of fun and added a special touch! It's a great spot for a quick bite.
Yum Yum Yum! Best sandwich in SD! This place has giagantic sandwiches and delicious flavors! The Stallion is what I've had along with their cream of jalapeno soup which was delish! Their little cookies they give with each sandwich are a great little after lunch/dinner snack. Also, their whole sandwich is big enough to split between two normal sized eaters. They have numerous choices for bread! The service is quick but, they can get super busy so I try to go in the in between meal times. I've been here a couple of times and always had a great experience. They hit the list for the top sandwich spots for sure in this awesome city! Parking is kind of a bummer is Mission Beach but, if you find a spot stop in here for some great soup and sandwiches!
