It's simple yet incredibly tasty. You can choose between a thick crust or a thin, New York-style option. The staff is enthusiastic and committed to creating great pizza. Give it a try!
I believe having eaten here three times in the past five days definitely deserves a review. Initially, I thought this place couldn't surpass my favorite pizza spot in Pacific Beach, which I won't mention, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance—it's incredible! I absolutely love the Detroit style pizza, especially with the cheese baked around the edges of the deep dish crust. Amazing! My go-to toppings are pepperoni and mushrooms. I'm such a fan that I've already marked my pizza spots in Detroit for a music festival next month, all thanks to tips from the owner, Fred. He and his wife are incredibly nice! I really appreciate supporting a place where the owners genuinely care about the food and their customers. I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped in, and after just my second visit, I already feel like we're friends. And let's not forget the cannolis! They make them fresh, and they might even be better than those at Mona Lisa's in Little Italy. They're definitely bigger, with way more chocolate chips, and honestly, I don’t even care about Mona's anymore. Why are you still reading this? Go grab me a slice too!
The standout feature is the red sauce on top of the Sicilian slice. In a previous review, I mentioned another pizza place that had a naturally sweet tomato sauce that wasn’t sugary. Square Pizza’s sauce is even better and would complement pasta dishes perfectly. Today, I ordered the whole Cadillac pizza, their meat lovers option, featuring a Boston-style crust rather than a Detroit-style crust. While it might look like a typical New York crust on the outside, it’s actually denser. Bitten into two stacked slices of Cadillac pizza with the tops touching is a meat lover's dream. The sweetness from the caramelized meats is present without an overpowering sugary flavor. Given my experience here, I find it shocking that Yelp moved nearly half (over 40% of the 95 reviews) for Square Pizza into the "not recommended" section when I checked. This includes 15 five-star reviews from users who have written 10 reviews. At least one five-star reviewer in that section has written over 100 reviews. In the past, I've received many "useful" clicks on Yelp after criticizing the owner for mismanagement and exploiting consumers’ ignorance. Now, however, I find myself saying forget Yelp, as I can’t refute what's been said about their dubious tactics. In fact, I need to update it: forget Yelp! Based on my personal experience with the pizza, I urge everyone to come by, have a slice, and see for themselves. Those who avoid Square Pizza are truly missing out.
This place is awesome. I'm from Detroit and was taken by surprise to see someone take an interest in Detroit Style Pizza and do a great job of making it. Fred is awesome as well as the rest of the staff I met there. I haven't tried the Boston style pizza but the Cannoli's were damn good. Stop by if you're tired of eating the crappy New York style pizza around here, promise you won't regret it.
Pizza made with passion for the art of pizza craft! Thick and fluffy, framed by a border of crispy cheddar cheese and incredibly delicious organic tomato sauce. By far, the best pizza I've ever tasted! Success to you friends, Poliana Melo Fred Santos!!!
