Waterbar - San Diego

I love oysters on the half-shell, and bouillabaisse, so was delighted with my meal in waterbar, and we have always found the waitress there to be personable, accommodating and efficient. while we did not opt for a seat with a view of the sea yesterday evening, this option is a grand plus, and during the warmer weather, sitting on the dach is a huge tasty, especially for a medium-western transplantation like me!

We were here for a special birthday dinner and hoped for a beautiful sea view. we have a table near the window, which was nice, but what we had not realized was that this is not really a restaurant. it is a bar. Although eating was actually quite good, we were packed in screaming 20-boys, louder music and generalchaos. our drinks took a long time, our food took a long time, and the wine we wanted to have with the dinner arrived only after eating. we couldn't hear each other talking. it would have been nice if they had separated the restaurant from the bar. our waitress seemed capable, but overwhelmed. this could be a hotspot for singles to join and party, but I would not recommend it for an evening meal, especially a birthday dinner.

I have listed “Special Occasion” in my reservation and the server never asked what was our special opportunity. good food, bad service.

So good! I have been in waterbar, but only the late nightclub/bar situation, which is exactly what they would expect. I was a little nervous to make dinner, but everything was amazing. they sat at a high table on the window with a spectacular view of the water! the oysters were very fresh as the poke and laughs! our server was hayley and she was also fantastic. Thank you!

Bathroom could have been cleaner and paper towels were overflowing.
