We booked dinner and were lucky enough to be seated right by the sea with great views of the sun set Although It is largely a pancake restaurant the they have Steaks, Fish, Duck and Salads on the menu as well. I had Fillet Steak with Peppercorn sauce and Gratin potatoes it was amazing I would normally avoid steak as it can be poor quality but this was Devine it melted in my mouth and tasted so good, my one complaint would be that there was so much sauce which they pour over it would be better served in a sauce boat but it's very minor and the meal was amazing for just over £20 including my drink. Give it a go even just for the sunset views
My wife and I have been holidaying in La Manga for a number of years now and always like to eat out from time-to-time. In the past we 've tried numerous restaurants along the Mar Menor sea front (glorious views) and happened to stumble across a French style restaurant called Sugar and Spice, my wife and I first tried this restaurant about 2 years ago, whilst expensive and the service taking a while, the food was delightful. However, beware! This place is no longer what it used to be. I 'm not sure what 's happened over the last year or so? Different chef? Change of food policy? Who knows? Unfortunately, there has always been an aire of arrogance to the Sugar and Spice restaurant, if you ever have the misfortune to meet the front of house (The French blonde haired lady aka Madame Arrogance), the arrogance and manner in which she speaks to paying customers is nothing short of appalling. When visiting the restaurant about 2 years ago, my wife and I questioned the particularly slow service back then, she arrogantly replied, 'This is normal '. (By the way it helps if you read my quotes in an arrogant French accent). Last night, I ordered the 'chicken roll ' and my wife ordered the pork. Each priced at €16.50 which is certainly in the high price bracket for what was simply, chicken wrapped in bacon and a smattering of pork fillet. The meat actually tasted nice, and was served with a few chips and unfortunately zero veg/salad. My main gripe was with my meal and the sickly tasting sauce that accompanied. My chicken breast arrived on a square plate swimming in this distasteful bilious cheese(ish) honey sauce. When the waiter sauntered over and asked the customary question, 'Is everything ok? ' I simply had to tell him the problem. Then... In came the big guns... Madame Arrogance herself had to investigate what the complaint was!? I simply said without being rude, 'The sauce doesn 't taste very nice and is rather sickly '. Without a moments hesitation, she whipped my plate away with my fork still in hand and proceeded to storm off to the kitchen. Nice of Madame Arrogance to explain what was going to happen? I then carried on eating my few remaining chips and sipped my beer. Then... Madame Arrogance returned suddenly with my plate in hand, the plate still swimming with the gastly sauce and the same nibbled chicken breast. Madame Arrogance then explained how more 'rouqefort ' (ponsy cheese to you and me) had been added to the sauce. She then proceeded with 'I have tasted it, it is fine '. All must be well if Madame Arrogance said 'it 's fine '. The sauce tasted marginally better, but was still disgusting and my chicken breast was still swimming in the filth. I won 't go into the same detail regarding my wife 's dish, but her sauce was sickly sweet also, but slightly more edible. My wife however, still left the majority of it. Did Madame Arrogance return to check if my sauce/meal was ok? Or that her paying customer was happy? I 'll let you guess the answer... No! Simply put, very poor customer service. Night out and meal ruined. When it comes to dining out, I 'm a very stereotypical Brit who very rarely complains about anything. When asked 'if everything is ok? ' I 'll often reply 'yes ' even though things aren 't quite right. I seriously doubt I 'd have complained had I been eating anywhere else. The swagger and attitude of Madame Arrogance riled me to a point in which it was difficult not to say something. My top tip if dining out on the Mar Menor front is definitely avoid this place and try one of the other many restaurants. That 's unless you like arrogant waitresses, sickly sweet sauces. Sugar and spice... Not very nice.
Realy good food. I will totalt recomend Sugar and Spice. I will come back for the excelent food and service. A 10/10. thanks for the experience.
