After noticing that offered outdoor dining we walked around the side and sat in a little courtyard lined with small citrus trees. My wife ordered Drunken Noodles and I had a large Pho. The cheerful server brought the food out in a few minutes and our prayers for nourishment were answered. The Pho had a delicious broth, and plenty of thin-sliced beef, halved meatballs, noodles, sprouts and onions. The Drunken Noodles contained thin-sliced chicken breast, thin-sliced broccoli, onions and peppers, and noodles in a light, delicious sauce. The servings were quite generous, and we had some Drunken Noodles left over for later. One thing to know if paying by CC is to bring cash for a tip, as adding it to the bill is not an option here. The owner came out to check on us during the meal, concerned about my barbaric chopsticks and spoon Pho consumption technique. Highly recommended: delicious, charming and a great value.
What an amazing discovery, especially after coming back from SE Asia. They even let you sample their soups if you're new to Laotian food! Humble, authentic cooking you rarely can find places like this anywhere in the States..why I love the east bay!
I was craving funky, dark Lao style papaya salad so decided to go here after checking out the reviews. Lots of great reviews and was definitely drooling over the papaya pics I was seeing on Yelp. Now that I look back, those pictures were from awhile ago sooooo??? Anywho, figured they might be busy because it was mid Sat so decided to order ahead then drove FROM BURLINGAME TO SAN LEANDRO/OAK to pick up the order literally only ordered papaya salad lol . Wellll, well, wellllllll, I should have checked/smelled or taste tested before driving off. I was so excited that I opened it in the car to taste right after getting back to my hood/parking. WOWZ!!!! It had a very strange taste to it, not the typical tangy funky taste of papaya salad but an old watery lime taste. I made several raspy exhales to try to get rid of the taste. I'm currently making a stank face while recreating the moment to write this review : the papaya salad was just.. very confusing. The liquid in there did not look right. And the noodles were old and mushy. Not my style, not fooo me.
This restaurant offers genuinely authentic and delectable Laotian and Thai cuisine. The staff is welcoming and provides samples of their delicious broth, making it easier for you to select the ideal soup to complement your meal.
Noodles Pho Me has sadly shut down, and it's a real disappointment. It was one of the best Asian restaurants in the East Bay. A friend mentioned they lost their lease, and I truly hope they can find a new location soon—ideally not too far from here!
