This year we were pressed for the time when we passed the san leonardo restaurant sandwirt', but had the pleasure to eat here five years ago. we had a lunch that was regional in taste, presented by smiling staff. we decided to sit on the terrace. in front of the house where the regional hero andreas hofer, the sandwirt' was born in 1767. he became a free fighter against napoleon, for his homeland South Tyrol, then part of Austria. in the interior of the house and the adjacent museum its memory is kept alive by many exhibits from its time. the dishes we had chosen were like cooking at home unmistakably also thanks to Austrian cuisine and very tasty. I loved my choice of plumenknödel' a kind of cooked dessert-like main dish, dumplings filled with plumen. if they like regional and Austrian as well as Italian cuisine, in a casual location on a historic location, visit the sandwirt' restaurant in san leonardo, a bilingual place in northern Italy
