RACIST and ARROGANT owner Assim turning away all people of color. Unbelievable. We were an Asian family of 10+ turned away for dinner on Saturday claiming place was booked for private party. Came in again on Sunday at 6:30 PM for dinner and was told 40 minutes waiting when the restaurant wasn't half full. We got seated in 10 minutes may be because our non Asian looking kids were first to walk in to get seating. I saw another Asian family was turned away by sayingt 45 minutes wait tilme. We noticed Only white people were seated in the restaurant. When we were served naan instead of paratha, while the waitress was trying to get it changed, the owner, Assim with a furious looking face came to our table brought the naan back and argued we ordered this naan only and we have to eat it. Totally unacceptable racist behavior and customer service from the owner and his family. This restaurant needs to be reported to city authorities.
The food is fresh, flavorful and served promptly. The service is cheerful and friendly. The servings are generous and we ate until we were stuffed. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I visited Pismo Beach from the Bay Area and was craving for some good Indian food in areas nearby and decided to try Shalimar. The staff here is really friendly and inviting. This is a family owned restaurant where the owners try to make everyone comfortable. I saw several regular visitors being warmly greeted and welcomed by the owners. We dined for a dinner on a Thursday night and the restaurant was more than half full. We ordered Chicken 65, Garlic Naan, Cilantro Naan and Karahi chicken. The chicken 65 was better than lots of Indian places in the Bay area. The naan breads were soft and delicious. I would have preferred if the bell pepper and onion pieces in the Karahi chicken we're smaller instead of the gigantic pieces, but nonetheless they tasted absolutely great. Most importantly, the service and interior environment were really amazing and made for a great dining experience. Highly recommended for trying Indian cuisine in the San Luis Obispo area.
The food was good. A bit overwhelming on the spices. Rice was not too good though and I love rice. Not too much to say about it all.
