You do need to be patient, though, as they make everything fresh, baking the pancakes only after you place your order. But believe me, the wait is worth it! Unlike many places that deep-fry their scallion pancakes at high temperatures (resulting in an overly hard and greasy texture), these are pan-fried at the perfect temperature, yielding a slightly crispy texture without excess oil. Both the scallion pancakes and sesame pancakes taste fantastic even after being reheated at home. I can't quite describe the dumplings; they are simply unique compared to those at other Chinese restaurants in terms of flavor and appearance. You really have to try them to appreciate what a delicious chive box is all about. While the other dishes are also good, my five-star rating is primarily based on the pancakes, which I would happily give six stars if I could!

In 2020, this was one of my favorite places to eat, but unfortunately, it has temporarily closed for various reasons. I truly hope it can reopen someday! It offered the most authentic Northern Chinese cuisine in downtown San Mateo. I used to visit almost every week. Having grown up in a Chinese city where noodles are a staple, I can confidently say their noodles are the best I've tasted among all the restaurants I've tried in the area. The milk tea and desserts were also delightful. As a family-run restaurant, it's important to note that they don’t use services like Uber Eats, as that can compromise their authentic experience. They are happy to accommodate special requests, too!

The silky bean curd jelly is fantastic! I also enjoyed the Jing Dong pork and beef pie, as well as the spicy bark combination as an appetizer. The food truly captures the essence of authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. The service was excellent as well.

Pretty decent little Chinese restaurant in northern style, which at the weekend liked the breakfast.

Not that I would know first hand but this place seems pretty authentic. Regardless, food was very good and service was pretty good too. The dumplings were just ok with a selection of only 3 but if I want a feast of dumplings, I'll go to a dumpling house. The pork in the braised pork on preserved vegetables was amazing. Definitely a solid experience for our first time there and we will definitely be back!
