So one early morning I was dropped off at the end of the street to walk towards this place and once I found it it was a winery place instead. To my surprise, this place no longer exists and I was so excited to try the pastries and coffee, but sadly was not able to.
San Miguel's magic can be found in every quaint little corner. A stroll alongside the city's cathedral reveals many little shops and cafés, where local artisans make their rounds selling handmade crafts to wandering tourists. Inside Casa Allende lies Pop Up Café, a small bakery and cafe that catches the eye as you walk alongside the cathedral. They feature a variety of baked goods, desserts, sandwiches, salads, coffee and tea. While this place merits a second visit, we tried a few of their pastries on this first occasion. The scone was biscuit-like, with texture almost as a cookie, but flavorful and prime for dunking into a café con leche. The conchas were unfortunately not as good, but the chocolate croissant and palmiers were delicious and ridiculously butter flavored, flaky and soft, definitely enough to bring one back. Do take a seat on the handsome seating in Casa Allende's patio, along with a rich and buttery pastry as the sun rises, ready to start taking beautiful San Miguel all in. This is definitely my plan for my next visit.
