We just happened upon Nacion Sushi when we were checking out the new Alta Plaza Mall in Panama City. One of my friends wanted a dose of Christmas in a mall, and we hadn't been to Alta Plaza Mall, so we made an afternoon of it. We were coming from the Coronado beaches area so we came across the Centenario Bridge and it's an easy exit with the mall on the right. Evidently Nacion Sushi is a chain with other restaurants in other parts of the city. We were very impressed with the 1) size and quality of the sushi rolls 2) the extensive menu 3) the service 4) reasonable prices. For you sushi lovers with friends or loved ones who do not eat sushi, Nacion Sushi is a place you can all go and get something you like. Honestly, what a find! And we loved the mall, too.
My second visit to Nacion Sushi (my first review is posted in the one in Costa del Este, it 's a negative review as well). My friend had been wanting to go, so I told her I 'll give it a second chance (first time was really bad). As I say in my first review, it isn 't a japanese but a fusion restaurant. That 's Ok. First, the mint lemonade was a watery diluted slushy, not worth the $4. We ordered the Mao Tse Atún (tuna-maguro), and a La Gran Muralla. The tuna sushi was spicy but reasonably good. La Gran Muralla wasn 't more than a fried fish stick inside a sushi roll (I 'm not kidding). It was a bad experience. Service was OK, even though it wasn 't closing time, they were very pushy for us to order and to pay when we finished. I give it a Poor instead of a Terrible only because the tuna sushi was good enough. I wouldn 't return to any Nacion fried Sushi.
We visited this restaurant four times during our recent three-week stay in Casco Viejo in August 2022. We were staying across the street at the new and excellent Hyatt La Compania. The restaurant exceeded our expectations from the first visit. Despite reading reviews mentioning it was a chain restaurant, we found the food to be excellent and reasonably priced (especially for the city and Casco). We tried satay, gyozas, sushi rolls, teriyaki chicken, pad Thai, and a keto salad, all of which were a tasty interpretation of their Asian origins. The service was friendly, and we were pleasantly surprised to have our food served with silverware, as we initially thought it was a fast-food chain. Overall, we had a great experience at this restaurant.
This restaurant is not what you would typically expect, as mentioned by others. The Pad Thai has a unique twist, but overall the food is delicious and the portions are generous for the price. The sushi rolls are 25% bigger than other places and very fresh. The service was average, nothing particularly outstanding.
