We decided to have lunch at the D S S restaurant and found it easily accessible from Sandy Bay Road. There were plenty of parking spaces nearby and the atmosphere was light and friendly. The restaurant offers a great view of the Derwent River with sailboat masts in the background. The menu was excellent with reasonable prices. Despite not being members, the staff warmly welcomed us and informed us that they are open to the public. We definitely plan on returning and will recommend it to visitors from outside Tasmania for a lovely lunch experience.
This is a great place for a meal with great views and free parking. The meals are well priced and the servings are generous. I have eaten here on a number of occasions and have not been disappointed.
I recently dined at the Derwent Sailing Squadron and was extremely disappointed with the poor customer service and slow kitchen service. While the food itself was delicious, I was shocked to find a rubber band in my steamed greens. The worst part was the long wait for my medium rare porterhouse steak. It took so long that I wondered if they were breeding and butchering the cow in the back. This should not have taken 45 minutes, especially on a night when most patrons were enjoying $2 tacos. It left me wondering if they had forgotten about my order completely.
Lovely setting, beautiful food, excellent service and very well priced, can't ask for much more than that.
