Pizzeria La Rucola

Serves the best pizza in Puerto but it's way away from the tourist trail so only locals get to go. It's the son of an Italian family who own a couple of pizza restaurants in Garachico (which are also excellent). The son started in Puerto a few years ago and has gone from strength to strength. Try the mixed starters, they're to die for. The chef will cook pizza any way you want vegetarian, vegan, lactose free cheese, different cheeses, different bases, anything you want. Very friendly staff. Not cheap, especially if you have starters and drinks, but you pay for quality.

On a little strip of shops on outskirts of Puerto de la cruz next to a Venezualan and a creperie. Frequented by lots of locals. We ate here several times and were the only English each night. Staff friendly and have a little English and with our little Spanish we got by fine. Pizzas were delicious. A good little find. Go for the food rather than the setting. It predominantly services the locals so isnt a place with a view.

We often spend weekends in Puerto de La Cruz and we we were getting a littled tired of our regular pizza place. A friend told us that La Rucola had opened here and we had to try it since we'd also dined at another one in Garachico owned by the same family. Good thing we reserved a table. Sunday appears to be the only day open for lunch (other days open at 6 for dinner) and the outside terrace fills up fast. We started with a large appetizer of artichokes and parmesan cheese with a little sun dried tomato. Light, but delicious! My children shared a tuna pizza and my husband ordered the rucola parmesan pizza. I went for the Diana pizza which hit the spot. We were all more than happy with our choices, especially my 9 yr old who is picky and likes to rate his pizzas. According to him, this one got top marks! All their pizzas have a very light crust so you don't get that stuffed feeling like you do with other pizzas. One highlight of La Rucola is that little kids can hang out at the counter and the chef gives them their own dough and rolling pin to make their own little pizza. Very entertaining! I'm sure we'll be back at La Rucola very soon.
